33XC Build

Well I got the 33XC dialed in. 118.6 gr of VV N570 and a 300 gr berger at 3225 fps w a SD of 6 fps for 15 shots. .004 neck tension and cci 250 primer. I have a .025 wide seating depth window that will shoot 3" at 1000. .070-.095 off the lands. I stopped doing seating depth testing since .025 is a very wide window. It hits in the same spot also anywhere in that range also. This is about the ultimate long range big game hunting setup that is still packable. 14.5 lbs w optics and bipod. I can watch the vapor trail go down the target w the scope cranked up to 27x. The reticle hardly leaves the 1000 yd target during recoil.

FYI: This setup has the same amount of energy at 2000 yds as a 6.5 creedmoor at 500 yds.

Man that is one awesome rifle! The performance of this round is great. I had mine out a few days back playing with a load I had good results @ 100 & 500. At 1260 yards I was using 1.5 mils wind with the .300 WinMag/190 SMK and literally half that with the .33XC/300 Bergers. That is pushing the supersonic threshold with the .300, but the .33 holds it for about 800 more. Standing by for more of your results.

Here are the stats to date on my 33XC.

Defiance Action
Proof 28" 1 in 9.4, with brake
BDL Bottom Metal
Manners EH5
ATACR 5-25
(Don't know the weight, maybe 10.5lbs)

So far I'm running into pressure with both 300 Bergers and SMK's at about 3050 with Retumbo & H1000. Have some US869 and will be trying that. Don't have any, or access to any VV570 to try. Also working with a 260 Hammer Hunter and is running at 3250 w/ no pressure at all & shows great promise. A couple more weeks and I should be shooting for groups.

Reloder 33 would likely get you up there in velocity, maybe more than n570, however it is a little temp sensitive and you will want to watch for carbon fouling. Wonder how reloder 50 and H50BMG would do in this cartridge?

RL33 is what I'm using with the 300 grain bullets, it is right at 100% density. RL50 has been too slow & can't seem to get enough in there, maybe if Berger gets the 329's on the streets. Never seen N570 in person so cannot comment on that.:D I tried RL26 with 285 grain bullets but was not happy with case fill, may be good with some lighter bullets (250 or less).

First serious range session today testing the 260 hammers and RE33. After doing a ladder to verify pressure, I loaded 3 each at 124.0, 124.5, 125.0, and 125.5. here is what I got.

124.0, 3,230, .641 MOA
124.5, 3249, .888 MOA
125.0, 3265, .452 MOA
125.5, 3275, .191 MOA

I think I'll stick with the 125.5!

I would definitely take those two higher powder charges and see what they do at long range!
That bullet at that muzzle velocity would be 1200 yard elk capable where I've been hunting them.

Finished up this sick 33XC for Aaron DeRose. Did full load development and everything for it. This rifle is stupid accurate. Shots 2,3&4 down the rifle measured .328"@100 with a random starting load. I ended up settling on a very mild load of H50bmg with .0015 neck tension and 300 gr bergers .020 off the lands, 2989 fps average. The ES on this load is EXTREMELY low, pic of a 3 shot string w 0 ES. 10 shot single digit was had on more than one occasion. I ended up shooting the smallest group at 580 yds Ive ever shot. .362"/.059 MOA AT 580 YDS. Obviously it won't do that every time. However the rifle is consistently holding 3" or less vertical at 1000 based on the last several groups shot with it. Heres a 3.104" group at 1000 with 1.64" vertical. With this very mild load of H50bmg there is almost zero throat erosion. Haven't been able to measure any in the last 100 rounds. I didn't get bolt click til 7 gr more powder, just to give you an idea on how mild it is. Barrel will easily last 1000 rounds. ZERO recoil on this thing. Reticle doesn't hardly leave the target at 1000.

Rifle has the following components:
Surgeon 1581 timed to a Triggertech Diamond
XLR Evolution, sick paint job by Grant Gillespie @ Viking Armament
Brux 32" barrel 9.4 tw
Slabbed 5 Port Magnum "Muscle" brake
Zero Compromise optic bedded into a Spuhr Mount
