I was wondering if any of you fellows have made up this combo and how it might perform shooting the 300 gr. Sierra MK bullet?

Thanks!

You will get the same results as the 340 Wby basically if you neck the 416 Remington down to 338.

Would be a good round with the 300 gr pills. A bit off the 338 Lapua but brass would be cheaper and it would fit in any long action.

I have always found the standard belted Magnum case to be weaker in the head then the RUM class or Lapua or Big Wby case.

Primer pockets seem to open up quicker then with these other three case designs.

Good Shooting!!

I have been shooting a 338-416 Rigby since 1996, and I love it. I have taken elk and moose with it. It shoots groups in the .5's off a bench at 100 yards loaded with 230 grain Failsafe, 119 grains of H-870, Federal 215M primers at 3288 fps, using an Oehler chronograph. I am just getting started in the longrange stuff, so can't give you a lot of detail about extended range. The rifle is built on an Enfield action, Lilja #5 30 inch barrel and NightForce scope. Rifle as shown weight 12 pounds.

I would guess 2600 fps or less with a 26" tube, depending on throat length it could be even less though. My Dad was getting 2350-2400 with his 338/300 WSM in a 27.5" 3 groove Pac-Nor, but it was also throated way long for the 300gr SMK.

BB,

My brother shoots a 338/378 WBY, basically the same thing with a belt. He uses 118gr H870 with the 300gr SMK at 3000 fps in his 32" bbl. His is throated long for the 300gr SMK though, a 4.1" OAL to be exact. You might get 2900-2950 using this combo with your shorter bbl and possibly a shorter throat.
