Just got my NRA purchase E. R. Shaw 338 WIN MAG . 24 inch pipe stainless with a break looking for a good starting load for 200 gr. and 225 gr. bullet.gun)

I wouldn't bother with 200's unless you can't get 225's to shoot. I'd burn around 75 grains rl19 with a 225 nos ab or hornady sp. If rl19 doesn't turn your crank I'd go with one of the 4831's.
I've been using the 225 hdy and 225 ab on top of 75gr. rl19 (lit by a 215) in my #1 in 338 for better than ten years and it's always been good to me.

Reloader 19 is a excellent powder in the 338 Win Mag, I use 74.0 with 225 Accubonds
Fed 215GM primers in WW cases.

With this combo you can go all the way up 78.0 grs of RL 19 in the WW cases, but I have found best accuracy and normal Vel at 74.0

Another good powder is H4350

THANKS ALASKA Looks like RE19 works for lots of people .Got IMR4350 and 200gr hornady loaded haven't got to shoot yet . Local shop just got in some RE19 . Will run down next week and pick some up for the 225gr bullets . Maybe i can shoot soon and break in new toys .do you guys think the 1 shot clean ,5 times 2 shot clean 3 times 5 shot clean 2 or 3 times is any great advantage ? gun)

Clean bore shots is not where your rifle shoots.....a good stable norm is after 3 or 4 shots......I never carry hunting a clean bore rifle. A cold fouled barrel is what you need to show where you will be shooting.

H4350 is different than IMR 4350 the H4350 is slower burning.........if elk is own your menu RL 19 and 225gr.....or
even RL 17.......if deer is on menu the Barnes 185 TTSX-BT with RL-17 woul be perfect

Today alot of shooters are switching too RL 17 in the 338 Win

If your talking about the 200gr Hornady SP that bullet causes massive wound destruction in the high vel 338 Win. If you need meat I suggest some type of bonded or all copper bullet

With the Barnes 185 any of the 4350's and RL 17 would probably work well

Mine shoots 1/2" with 78 grns.XMR 4350, and 180 gr. NBT's. Unfortunately that is the only bullet I could get to shoot. Discontinued by Nosler.

This is Shaw recommend barrel break in procedure. Seems like a lot of work for an old man. My smith tells me there is no big advantage to it May he's just older than me ??

Glasser Don't you hate it whenever they do away with a good thing. Iknow how you feel. They done it to me one time with the 243 85gr solid base

usually the ab shoots the same for me as the bt.... in fact I shoot them interchangeably in the 7stw with rl25 under the hood...

Here's a load that has shot submoa in 3 of my 338s. It's the max load in the most recent Barnes reloading manual. 67.5 grains of IMR 4350 under a 225 grain TTSX. Seat the bullets 50 thousandths from the lands as measured from the ogive.

This summer I'm gonna see of H4350 will give me similar results because I would like to consolidate down to one powder for the calibers I shoot (338 WM, 30-06, 7mm-08)

Yep. I know what you mean. Luckily I was able to hoard a few hundred factory seconds before they were completely unavailable.

My Hunting load for a 700 Rem SS 338 WM. Case. Winchester, Primer. Win. LRM. Powder. IMR 4350 72.0 (seventy Two) Gr. Bullet. 225 gr. Nosler Part. OCL 3.375 . Velocity 2935 fps. from 24 in. barrel. This is maxium load from a 1967 Hornady reloading manual, for 225 gr. bullet. 7th Edition of Hornady reloading manual list 68.6 as max. for 225 Gr bullet and IMR 4350. Work up to this load carefully. I like IMR 4350 Use in 338 WM. 300 WSM and 243 Win.
