I'm trying to conceive a 338 cartridge based on the 375 h&h possibly by ackleyizing the h&h. What I'm trying to figure out is if anyone has done this, or if it is a viable option, or would a 338 edge or lapua be a better option.

Yes, it's doable. No, I can't think of a variation that's not been tried. What exactly are you trying to achieve? That answer is what will determine if an option is better than another.

I'm looking for an accurate long range target and hunting rifle, launching a 300gr slug around 300fps. I've always liked some of the odd and unconventional rifle cartridges, but I'm just now getting to the point of having one being a viable option.

Use the search bar, top right hand corner of page, type in Terminator+P. You'll get a list of threads, My new Defensive Edge LRKM by Broz will be the one to start with. It's a Lapua based wildcat that should meet your criteria.

Get a hold of KIRBY ==Allen Precision ...He is your go to guy on this site for any 338 configuration.. He is also a sponsor ..

Basically you're looking at a .340 Weatherby, a wildcat version would be an 8mm Remington Magnum necked to .338. Some neck down the .416 Remington Magnum. I believe .338 Galliard is what these are being called these days.

Going back into the fifties, if my memory is on, the .334 OKH Belted is what folks were calling it. Elmer Keith necked up and down just about every case out there to .338 I may have the lettering off.

If you have not already started on this need, we should probably talk first.
