I am curious as to how many would be interested in a 338 Sherman or Sherman Short. Velocity should be on par for either at about 2850 with a 250 Berger and crowding 3000 with a 225. They will fit in std. mag boxes for each. Seems to me that this would be quite appealing to have an '06 head size with this velocity and also a true short action with 338 WM performance........Rich

You know I'm in for the 338 Sherman!

Rich, I've been looking over barrels recently - what twist would you recommend?

The 338 SS has been calling my name for a while. I can't think of a cooler elk cartridge. A short action slinging 250s or 300s with authority would be mighty neat.

It is so far out of what I normally work with that I don't really know, but I would think in the 2400's somewhere........Rich

It was brought to my attention that someone was getting 2540 out of a RCM with a long throat and barrel so the SS should be AT LEAST that much! Might make 2600?
I just measured the 338 SS at about 77 grs. H20 vs about 72 for the RCM so we may get even more than 2600?

Man 2600 would be awesome but the 250 at 2800 would be tough to beat for a sweet hunting rig.

I just measured the capacities of each. The SS is about 77 grs. and the Sherman is about 79. The SS has a longer neck, so the useable in the Sherman would be more like a 4 gr. difference instead of 2. I think something in the 200-225 gr. at about 3000 or so would be pretty sweet for a short carry rifle too. Also, a partition, A-frame, or one of the monos would make big bear medicine....Rich
