338 rum & rl-26 ?

Curious if anybody has had any luck with RL-26 in the 338 RUM? Might try and work up a load with the Berger 250 EH. I've got H1000, Retumbo and RL-33, but just curious if RL-26 has been used with success by anybody here.

My gun shoots everything great, so more interested in starting out with a powder that will give top velocity.

Thanks for the response. The actual charge compared to the edge is not a match, but I think powder choices are very comparable. So it sounds like RL-26 with 250 and lighter bullets might be awesome. RL-33 is great with heavier bullets but not with 250 or lighter.

Folks here have been saying good things about 26 lately, and it seems like it might be worth a try...

Used it in my 338 Lapua ..........burns dirty
So I did not use it in my 338 RUM.

The new IMR 7977 should be good
RL 26 should be a winner with 250's
I have my hunting loads established with IMR 7828 and Reloader 22
Sure is accurate with the Sierra 250gr GK and 91.0 of IMR 7828 (Favorite)
My Rem 700 had to get Mag Na Ported sure is a beast.........not too bad with 91.0 of RL22 and 225 Swift A frames (very accurate and a excellent moose load easy 500 yard shooting. I have a older Redfield Illuminator Accutrac Scope and the BDC dials work perfect with this load. Range / Adjust BDC dial / Shoot

Fred, I'm curious what QL says about RL33 with the Berger 250 EH and a 27" barrel... my assumption is it's too slow? Is that hard to run?

Yeah, I tried it. My QuickLoad kept falling asleep. Just too slooooowwwww.

Seriously, it's way way down there. Hard to make 2700fps without a compressed load.

Pressure is really low though.

Only %95 powder burn.

I thought I might be able to show you how nice quickload is for these ' what if " questions . it can save a lot of time and money on components . these would be mac powder charges so always start low and work up . Let me make sure I understand these numbers. Let's take the Reloder-26, the numbers from your output mean the following... correct me where I'm wrong:

96.5% fill
88.3 grains
5.72 grams? (Just another charge weight)
2900 FPS
100% of the powder is burned
63817 psi
10649 ?? Says psi, not sure on this maybe attend if barrel?
1.304 milliseconds time from ignition to bullet exit? Or is that the barrel harmonic?

Maybe it's time I invest in QL... can you convince my wife?

P max is the max pressure that this load produces . your 338RUM is rated at 63817psi

P muzz psi , is the pressure when the bullet base exits the barrel .

B time ms , barrel time in milliseconds ... this is the barrel time number that is used with Dan Newberrys optimum barrel time , load development method .


I'm sure quickload does a lot more than I know about it , but I get what I need to know from it . here is a very short quickload how to that might intrest you .
