Do you think the 338 RUM could shoot a 250gr bullet with the rifle sighted in at 200yds
going 3000fps to 250yds with out any hold over I know it drops 6.8" at 300 yds.

With my 338 LM I can site my 300 smk's (@ 2780 fps) in at 300 yards and I can aim dead on from 0-300 yards without being more than around 5 inches off.

Are your 300smk's hollow points? Because thats the only 300gr bullets I know of for the 338 cal.

But they work just as well as a hunting bullet and are more accurate. If you think the SMK won't work on game just do a search. The info is endless.

The 300 SMK's have a hollow point from the manufacturing process. They are not designed as hollow points but kill game very well.

I have some 300 gr SMKs loaded haven't shot them yet will shoot them thru a conagraph when I do. You say 2750fps is whats needed.
I have 92grs of H1000 behind them.

JustC I have the same data for loading the 338 RUM. What I have going 3016 fps is a 250gr bullet. I don't know how fast my loaded 300gr bullets will go til I shoot them
thru a congraph. I have all my rounds loaded with H1000. Anything you find thats better please let me know.

Harv,

I did not see anyone say they would not work as a hunting bullet. I don't see any reason for matchking shooters to be defensiveon this site..

jro45,..skip the H1000 and go to RL25 or retumbo. I have just worked the ladder on both powders in my 300RUM because I got the same group at 150-200fps faster with RL25 than with H1000. Glad I tried that experiment. I'll let you know what I get as I load with each of these powders in the 338RUM.

jro45,..I see you are in Dover,....I'm in Salisbury

I am about to get my 338RUM back from the gunsmith,...I'll share any info I get as I load for it here in the next month or so.

I will be loading some 225gr accubonds and 200gr NBT's. I would think that 3000fps would be a little slow for this caliber,...I am seeing 3200+ for the 225gr in load data I have researched.

Bear,
I always hunt with Matchking's, I have not had an animal that did not go down after one shot yet. I highly recommend them.

JustC Where did you get your load dadda for the 338 RUM using RL25. I've read where the 225 is suppose to go 3200 fps but it gave no load info for that bullet. Thanks jro45
