This is my first topic, I have had a great time viewing all the old posts. I currently shoot a 250 grain gameking out of a 340 Weatherby with a 1-10 twist Lilja barrel, Rem 700 action. It will typically shoot .5 to .75 MOA. I am getting roughly 2900 FPS using 88 grains of RL25. In general, what type of accuracy improvements can someone expect by going to the MK bullets? Also anyone out there with any experience shooting the 300 MKs out of a 340 Weatherby? Thanks for any info on the 338 MKs.

You should be able to shoot the 300grSMK out of your rifle with good results. the match bullet will buck the wind period,Although I have no experience with the WBY 340, the
RUM shoots the 300gr ers great.

Sniper2, Thanks for the reply. I have to give those long things a try. I've got some RL25 and will see how they do. Hoping to get around 2650 with them. I would love to try a 338 UM someday. What is your load in the RUM with them?

I have a factory .338 RUM LSS. Factory standard 26" light weight barrel. After some heavy teething pains I've got it shooting pretty good. 250 grain Sierra Gamekings are the best so far, but haven't tried MK's. They're up on my list.

250 grain Sierra Gameking, 83.2 grains IMR4831, CCI 250 primer, 2859 fps, 9/16" 5-shot group at 100 yards. Using the same load but substituting 87.3 grains of WC852(s)I get 2925 fps and a 3/4" group. Max load appears to be 93 grains of WC852(s) pushing it along at 3077 fps.

Been disappointed with Accubonds, as I couldn't get any better than a 1" group at 3054 fps using 91.4 grains of WC852(s). Still suitable for elk though.

With a longer and heavier barrel a .338 RUM should do quite well.
