338 lapua and ADI powders.

G'day guys, any Aussie's or Kiwi's using Adi powders for their 338LM,im looking for an accurate load using the 300smk,i do have some vvn165,vvn570,RL25 and RL22 but these powders aren't always easy to get so i would prefer to use the adi powders.What kind of velocities can i expect?I am using lapua cases and my rifle is a stiller tac action with a 27" barrel,cheers.

I know quite alot of guys using 2217 90 -92 grns depending on the gun.

Start low and work up. In a 26 " barrel they seem to start under 2700 and run to hig 27's fps in a factory MLr barrel. Longer barrels will give more though.

I have been using AR2217 in my Blaser TACII. !:10 twist
I think AR2217 is the same as Retumbo.
I think it is good to use with 250gn SMK, Lap brass, Fed match primers.

Just a quick correction. 2217 is labelled H1000 in the US. Definitely not Retumbo.

I believe Retumbo is 2225 here is Aus ? I think.. cause I dont use it ?

ADI makes both powders.

Forgot to mention that both the MLR rems my friends have played with needed the 300 smk loaded past mag length so they only worked as a single loader. I think both were loaded to around 3.7 " OAL. Both these guns would not shoot the 300 smk before they loaded them way out past mag length and they averaged around 2775 with accuracy. They are too short for good performance when set for length for the mag,

How tight do the MLR's shoot with the 300gn SMK..? Just curious as there is a big difference price wise going to a custom build. Looing at Options!

I had a MLR before the custom but i was never close to 2700fps with the 300smk,it shot well but the best i was getting was around the 2500's so stayed with the 250 grainers that was using Reloder,i've made up some loads with 2217,2225 and the 300smk,i'll post the results when i get a chance to put them through the tube.cheers guy's.

i ve got a 338 lapua and i use the vithuavori n170 with great results. I to have had some trouble getting more powder and curently playing with the adi 2217.
As with the powders i saw the advert in a magazine ( i think the sporting shooters magazine) of lapua Australia which are located in Queensland and they will ship the powders to your local gun shop for you. Their phone number is 07 38652499.

Thanks mate,been away for a few days tested some loads,i used 2213sc,2217,2225 and some reloder 22 on some 250 and 300smk's.My best results with the 250's was with the RL22 and 2225 both averaged between 1"and 1 1/2"@330m,the2213sc and 2217 wasn't too far behind,the 2213sc worked best in a mates rem mlr 338lm.Groups for the 300's were not as tight with two 5 shot groups around the 2"@330m mark,best loads were 92gr 2217 and 94gr 2225,back to the drawing board...
