Merry Christmas. Will you be loading them for your pistols? I have used them for developing powder velocity/accuracy testing. The rifle is not finished, so the results may take a while. The one thing that bugged me about shooting 338 rifles was the recoil impulse was always heavier than my 375 H&H. In studying this I find the higher velocities also increase the recoil effect and that alone may explain this situation. The weight of the weapon with its bedding blocked barrel (1 1/2" by 33") should mitigate the recoil factor.
All be loaded in my 338 win mag pistol or 338 JDJ pistol (444 marlin necked down) I plan to use for spring bear and bust some rockchucks with them. It's really a good test shooting those, as they are very dense and tough. Picture enclosed is best elk with 338 JDJ and the hornady 200 grain interlocks. -30 and 300 yards, dropped in his tracks, bullet broke near shoulder and was stuck in off side shoulder.
Congratulations. Wow, a wildcat pistol cartridge! I am glad you have experience with these bullets. I have no idea as to what velocities these bullets will be attaining out of the very long barrel. I will be happy when we get chronograph info. It will be nice if they make nice round holes in the target.
Merry Christmas
In between cleaning up here, I thought I would use you as a source. I have a lot of old T shirts and my wife is a quilter-therefore with her rotary cutter I can make exact patches for this long 338 barrel I will have. I do not have it on hand. When companies sell larger patches they tend to bunch several calibers together. This means they fit NOTHING well to me. What size do you think I should start out with for a really good fit for this 338 barrel?
I would measure a patch then try it for a reasonable snug fit, too loose and it doesn't spread the cleaner properly.. ..I'll measure a patch now and give feedback to you. I used to use old flannel pajamas
