338-8mm Remington Mag

I know a guy who owns one of these down at the range. One day he was tooling up some 250 grain Gamekings, and was pumping out over 3110 (over 5300 foot/pounds of energy) fps over a chrono. The barrel was only a 26" Pac Nor, with a Vais break on it. The only explanation that I can think of is that the loads were really hot. any thoughts

I shoot my 338 rum with 250 gr bullets at the same fps. So whats up?

I dunno, that just seems really high. Especially out of 26" barrel and less powder capacity than the RUM. I mean, those ballistics are approaching 338-378 territory.

That sounds about right look at a 340 Weatherby pretty much the same thing the case is the same the 8mm and the 340 are a necked down 375 H&H case. He might have a fast barrel. I shoot as fast as 7mm Ultra mags with my 7MM STW and it is just a plain Rem Sendero and they shoot about 20 grains more of powder than I do.
