Has anyone any idea who made the origonal 338-06 barrels that were fitted to the Weatherby mk V 338-06 rifles.

Odds are it was Krieger, who makes all of Weatherby's barrels since production moved to the US.

I have a Mark V chambered in .338-06 and I don't see any distinguishing marks that identify the manufacturer. I am not very familiar with how Kreiger marks their barrels. Kreiger would however, be my best guess.

The reason for the question is that I always fancied a 338-06 even though it is a little large for UK deer species, so I purchased a Weatherby fluted barrel off Ebay US, and then a Weatherby Mk V in 30-06 a Japanese built Rifle local to me and I am having them put together.
I was looking to find the running in period for the barrel.

If that's a 9 lug 30-06 rifle it's an uncommon (may be even rare) one you're starting with.

Don't worry about any run-in or break-in period. If you are, follow Weatherby's info on the FAQ section of their website.
