.308 Best Rounds

What are some of the best performing .308 rounds? Whitetail hunting specifically. Shooting a tikka T3x Superlite .308

178 A Max / ELDM works well for me, several dead Deer, all died quickly.

Whitetail aren't hard to kill. I'd say the less premium the better. Something on the soft to frangible side. Any plain vanilla soft point. Nosler b tip. Hornady eld m/x, Sierra TMK.

If you can find some old school 168 AMAX's, they are magnificent on pigs and deer. Just my 2 cents.

Make sure you match your twist rate though. Tikkas have been known to underspin. Bigger pills may be an issue. If able, the 185gr Berger Classic Hunter has been an easy to shoot factory offering.

If rolling your own, the 180 Elite Hunter worked well.

As mentioned though, put just about anything in the right spot and you will probably be fine.

for whitetail anything in the 150 to 168 weight class will work well in your tikka whitetail are easy to take down

Hornady Sp Interlock at 150 grains shoots lights out w/ 1:12 twist. Anything in a hunting bullet 150-180 grains will do the trick...I have had good luck with the 178 ELD-X loaded hot too.

It really depends on your range limitations. I've used 165gr BT and 180 gr PT. My buddy uses 165gr PT for everything including elk. Our range limitations are pretty low though with these loads. Around 200 yards for elk and 300 for deer.

I also have a T3X SL 308 and it absolutely loves Federal Premium 150 Gr Ballistic Tips. It will group like this pretty regularly if I do my part and it does a number on whitetails.

168gr amax/eldm or 178gr amax/eldm. Killed a lot of deer with those 2 from 40yds-500 yds. Gets the job done and is the same load I run for long range plinking.

Hunting large northern whitetail and taking any angle shots including shoulder bone would suggest 150-165 AB or BT. The accubonds have never let me down even quartering on one with a live weight of over 250#

Thank for all the info guys. To be more specific, primary will be whitetail hunting with my Tikka t3x .308 (1:11 inch twist). Shooting capabilities are anywhere from 10-400 yards where I'm hunting.
