Berger 185 grain Hunting VLD, Winchester Brass, Fed 215M primer, and 62.5 grains of RL 17. It runs a decent velocity out of my 23 inch barrel (2900 fps according to my actual drops) and has great accuracy.

That load is 1.5 grains above the max in the Berger manual so work up to it. I'd start around 59.0 grains.

69.0grs of Reloader-22 with 165gr bullets
65.0grs of IMR-4350 with 165gr bullets

This is some to the loads that I have used in my Model 70 Winchester and my Ruger Mark II. Make sure that you work these loads up, some are near the max and some are not.

Ruger Mark II

168 Barnes TTSX,
RL-17 64.7 grains
Norma cases
215M primers
Average velocity 3015 ft/sec


168 Barnes TTSX
N550 62.5 grains
Norma cases
WLRM primers
Average velocity 2975 ft/sec


Winchester Model 70

168 TTSX
RL-17 67.5 Grains
Norma cases
215M primers
Average velocity 3128 ft/sec

Bergers 190 grains
N165, 69.5 grains
Norma cases
WLRM primers
Average velocity 2961 ft/sec


Bergers 185 grains

Max for my brothers 300WSM: 210 Berger, 66g H4831sc, 215 primer--doing just under 2700fps MV.

I received my order of RL-17 and had the chance to load 20 rounds last night.
So this morning went to the range about 11:45AM.
Outside temp. 89 degs. F., barometric press. 30.03, and Sunny.

I am excited by your results. I have a savage 16 in 300 wsm I haven't even shot yet (guilty of having more than 1 rifle I like to use ). I have some RL 17 and have been wondering about performance. I hope to have some results like you have, but who knows???

Question, what primers did you use? How far from the lands did you seat your bullet?

Me and my Spotter from back in the armydays will go out on the range and test some loads next weekend thx very much guys!

Where did you find a Berger Manual? I've been put on a waiting list for one but no one has contacted me about them yet.
