I have a new rifle that should be done in the next month and I am trying to get an idea as to what would be some good powders to start out with. The rifle is a 300wsm throated for the 215g Berger Hybrid. The bullet bearing surface boattail junction is just at the bottom of the neck so the coal is about 3.18", so it will have lots of room for powder. I am hoping to get 2800-2850fps. I was thinking IMR 7828 SSC would work well but I would like to have a powder that is more temp stable. If anyone out there is running a similar set up let me know. Thanks Rich

IMR 7828SSC is temp stable! H4831SC is also an excellent choice.

+1

I've run max charge work-ups with both, but using the 210 VLD, not the 215 hybrid. 24" barrel. 2.931" OAL which puts me just off the lands.

IMR 7828 started showing pressure signs at 67.0 (75F, 29.92 absolute pressure). Velocity was 2845. This was pretty much 100% fill without being compressed.

The H4831 SC gave me 2815fps at 67.0, which was again pretty close to 100% fill. No pressure signs. I ended up with a final load at 66.5, giving me very good accuracy at 2805fps avg.

Can't go wrong either way, IMO. I will say I also tried H4350 and it was a fair bit slower. YMMV.

I am running 64.2gr 7828ssc behind the 210 SMK at 2787 fps @ 80 deg. 300 feet above sea level with pressure at these temps at 65.5gr in the higher node. My set up is the Surgeon 1086R with a Bartlien 5R at 26" chambered in a 2.42 neck. I am also going to give the 215's a try and just got them in and will post what I find as work permits. With this load I am using Norma brass and CCI BR-2 primers. Good luck with your new rifle and I will get you my info when I get it.
