300 wsm load data for 168 gr ttsx

Here's some data from last spring. My rifle did not like 168 TTSX's and RL17 for some reason. You'll see the the 180 E-Tips took more poder and had higher velocity. Another forum member got much better results with RL17 and the 168 TTSX's.

* Note: add 8 fps to compensate distance (14 ft) of chrony

MontanaRifleman I wanted to confirm the bullet and powder you are using. Nosler 180 E-tip with RL17 powder? The reason why I ask, is I just bought a 300wsm and refuse to pay **** near $60.00 per box for good amo. I have loaded up IMR 4831 with 66.00 grains and getting 2804 to 280p FPS. I really want to reach the 3000 fps out of my Tikka 300 WSM stainless with a 24' barrel. Any imput would be awesome. you can email me at [email protected]. I got family is Hamilton and Darby

I'm looking for a starting point with the 168's possibly with R-17.Any help would be greatly appreciated.
The reload manual does not list any load data for the 300wsm with a 168 gr. ttsx projectile. It was not included when it was printed.

Have you check Alliant site for loading data? They do list a max of 68gr/R-17 with 165gr bullet @ 3217fps and max of 66gr/R-17 with 180gr bullet @ 3082fps.

I'm shooting custom 300WSM most times couple grains up max I get max velocity and this is in my rifle.

66gr/R-17 with 165gr AB @ 3200fps

66gr/R-17 with 165gr TSX @3208fps

66gr/R-17 with 168gr TSX @3226fps

66gr/R-17 with 168gr E-Tip @3159fps.

66gr/R-17 with 165gr Rem @ 3101fps

66gr/R-17 with 180gr Rem @ 2996fps

Really haven't done much with that rifle but was happy with R-17. My varmint partner has Tikka T-3 in 300WSM and I load for that and R-17 wasn't around when I worked up his loads but using H-4350 with 180gr partition. He's used it here for elk also in New Mexico and couple ranches he hunts 300yd be a long shot and he getting just little over 2900fps.

thanks for the info. I am looking for a load with ttsx bullets. I will call Barnes customer service monday. The reload manual shows R 15 for the 165 load and w760 at3101ft. I may try that load.

Barnes manual list 11 powders for the 165/168gr bullet in the 300WSM testing was done with 1/10 twist Kreiger barrel. I understand your looking for a load with the TTSX in Barnes manual they list 165/168gr bullets same loading data.

http://www.barnesbullets.com/wp-content/uploads/2007/02/300WSMWeb.pdf

and the above data is in their manual before TTSX were made. Well good luck

I've been getting great results with a 168 gn Berger, 66.1gn 4831SC, and CCI 250's. my 300 WSM isn't a super custom gun by any means and it throws those very well. I know it's not as fast but it's consistent. Still looking for a faster round. And from what I gather the 4831 sc is a really stable powder that shoots consistent in extreme temps and high altitudes so its a winner for me. Post what you find though cause I'm always ready for an experiment.
