300 WM: Barnes 175 gr LRX / RL 26

I just worked up a new load for my 6.5 cm with LRX 127 grain over RL16. Most accurate load ever with that riffle!
Attached is a five shot group.
Ave. Fps was 2934 out of a 22" barrel with an SD of 9 and ES of 17.

I found the velocities quite amazing going from H1000 to RL22 with the 175 LRX. I didn't test for the difference in velocities as I worked up as you did though. Have found similar results with a RUM. I think the big cases are less effected by the smaller increases so I usually do .5 gr increments until pressure.

77 gr H1000 2907 FPS. Crunching powder and had to half seat and then set on the washing machine to settle the powder (Ruger factory box 3.34" COAL).
75.5 gr RL22 3150 FPS.

Ahh...if only Alliant was as temp stable.
my loader tryed 4 different powders etc...we found also rl-22 was a good combo for my 300 win mag..im getting 3275 1000ft..75degrees..with 76.6 gr rl22..note prohunter 28in barrel with a 2in brake added..and my groups are better....lrx shooting better groups at the higher velocity...i will ask my loader if we can push it up to 3300..using NEW 300 win brass...if so ,,,check the grouping...and the cases....

Tried H-1000 over several loadings in my 300 Win Mag. velocities were ok and accuracy was ho hum. I know not very scientific. No loading jumped out at me despite several attempts with the 212 ELDX and the Berger 190 and 215. Its only when I went to RL-26 did the grouping tighten up.

So I tried some RL 26 behind Barnes 175 gr LRX bullets today in my 300 WM and was astounded at the speeds. I didn't even hit max pressure and quit because it was making me nervous as it was. Results as follows:

77.8 3226
78.1 3215
78.4 3230
78.7 3222 SD 10
79.0 3203. ES 27
79.3 3229

I was surprised by the small difference in velocities despite a charge difference of 1.5 grains overall. Shots were fired over a Magnetospeed Sporter chrono. I'll probably be experimenting further with a charge in the 78.4-78.7 range.
Hi Charlie, I was wondering if you found a good velocity node with the 175 LRX: I am doing load development with a CA 300 WM 26" barrel and experimenting with COL I seemed to get really low SDs 0.38" off the lands w/ 74.2 gr. of H4831sc, velocity is 3170 fps and it is looking like it wants to group right there... I wanted to find out if there is a harmonics/velocity node right around that velocity that yields small groups. If you have a 26" barrel the velocity where you found your accuracy node would be helpful. Thank you sir! - Chris

I wish I could find RL26 stuff is like fairy dust

I wish that I had found this thread prior to working up a load for my step-son's 300 WM…..I had a bunch of RL 26! I used RL 22….less than pleased with accuracy and velocity! 🙀 It'll work…..but, could've been much better! 🤬☹️ memtb

Several of us in my area have been trying to get get our hands on some with no luck, this insane shortage sucks

Never used RL26 ( RL26 0.50 fps per °F) and would love to try it if I could find some as well. It is my understanding that RL26's burn rate is really close to H1000, with the later being less temperature sensitive (H1000 0.21 fps per °F).

Have you ever tried H1000 or H4831sc (H4831sc 0.08 fps per °F). Those are my 2 go to powders for the 300 WM. Here is where you can get some right now: https://www.milehighshooting.com/hodgdon-4831sc-1-lb/

I am using H1000 in my 180g loads, I know that I should get a bunch of h4831sc to try but I just haven't yet
