any thoughts on this?have a friend that has some,3 boxes.wants to hunt deer at long range,600 yards.

Sure, it will be awesome with 190gr Berger. The 240gr is even better however it may be a bit too much for small deer.

Another note: If you are using the factory barrel, a long sleek modern bullet may not fit well. You will need to re-throat the barrel to make it longer.
 
Many hunters seem to like the Bergers but I have to tell you about my experience with the 190 out of my 300 win mag. 4 years ago I shot a cow elk at about 150 yards. The bullet exploded & only penetrated 7" & I had to shoot her in the head. At that range I feel a bullet should exit. They are very accurate but I will not shoot anything bigger than a coyote with them. Like I said, many hunters like them. Not poicking sides, just telling you my opinion.

190's VLD's on thin skinned game, deer should be scared! They would do great in my opinion. i have had great luck with the 215's.
 
They worked great for me. One shot at 475 yards dropped the buck in his tracks. Make sure the hollow point is open all the way down to the lead core. Shoot for the lungs right behind the shoulder.
