Anyone ever use IMR 7828 SSC
With Barnes 175 gr LRX ?
I have 5lbs of it and was hoping it would work,
Rifle is a Sako 85 11" twist
Working up an Elk load
If not I also have 5 lbs H4350

Never tried either powder or the Barnes 175 LRX in my 300WM. I ran your numbers in QL and came up with the attached.

7828 is a fine powder in the 300WM….many years ago when it was available Down Under, I used a tonne of it in a 24" barreled 300WM with 180's and 200's. Velocity was right up there too.

Cheers.

7828 should work great if your rifle enjoys it.

Velocity retention will likely be much better wherever you hunt elk vs. your home in Florida. You can limit that impact by simply limiting your maximum range.

You may also need to factor for temperature differences between home and your elk hunting destination (or better yet test your loads at different temperatures).

H4350 is more temp stable ... I've seen estimates ranging from 0.16-0.29fps/'F ... the estimates that I've seen for 7828 is ~1.36fps/'F
