Hey guys got a question. I am looking to pick up a Hawkins precision 3 port brake for my new barrel. The barrel is a shilens #5 that is .700 at the muzzle. The brake is 1/2-28 threads, is that going to be ok with a 300 win mag? Or should I just setup to a 5/8-24? I wanted the brake blended to the barrel contour and the 1/2-28 brake is .750 with a minimum of .687. The 5/8-24 is .875 with a minimum of .750.
Any help would be appreciated.

I'd go with something in a 9/16x24.

1/2x28 will leave the barrel wall to thin for a 30 cal.

Prefect that's what I need to know. The other brake I was looking at was muzzle brakes and more baby beast 4 port. I will order one up in 9/16-24.

I have a 1/2-28" Holland's QD muzzle brake on my Savage 111F in .300 WM with one of those pencil barrels since 2003 without any issues.

Since you're considering the baby beast, it is best to contact Nathan (https://muzzlebrakesandmore.com/) directly and discuss your concern. Good luck!

I had a kdf with 1\2-28 threads put on my 300 win mag and I would say it works fine. If I would have had the option I would have went 5\8-24 but the barrel diameter wasn't big enough. There are a lot more brake options for 30 cal with 5\8-24. At least that's what I could find..
