Ive got a 300wby with a 24 inch barrel. Im planning on shooting 200gr AB out of it. What is the best powder for this application?? Since its a shorter barrel a slow powder like 7828 or h1000 might not completely burn in that barrel length. What about IMR 4350 or some other medium burning powder? Any help would be great

IMR4350 at 70 grains should hit 2800fps, Nosler Manual says max load with 4350 at 74 grain with speed at 2960. Test barrel was a 26" so YMMV.

Complete burn should not be a factor with a barrel that short. With the capacity of the .300 Wby, you would need a 30"+ barrel for a complete burn anyway. So, for bullets between 180-215 grains, I'd say 7828/7828 SSC should be fine.

I use 7828 for my 225 Hornady loads.
But... If you can't find accuracy with any of the go to 300 Weatherby powders, try IMR 4350. You might be pleasantly surprised. That's the only slowish powder Roy had to work with when he developed the 300.

7, my son's 300Wby shoots very well with H1000 using 200-210gr bullets. Had good groups with 7828SSC, but we have a ton of H1000. Just loaded some lighter bullets in my friend's W. German Mark V 300Wby with 1:12 barrel using H4831SC. Shot sub-MOA.

Thanks for the advice on all the different powders. Im going to cabelas soon so i'll pick up a few different kinds and see what works the best. Will post my results

With 210 gr Berger VLD Hunting, H1000 was the most accurate, next best was Retumbo, in my Accumark.
