300 RUM: Retumbo or H1000?

Hello all! Santa delivered my present a little early. Sendero 700 action trued, 30" Kreiger HV taper w/ brake, wyatts extended box, mcmillan A2 stock, nightforce 20 moa base, burris xtr rings, leupold 8.5-25 vx3. Was looking for suggestions on retumbo or H1000? I am loading for 210 bergers and possibly 200 accubonds. I have a pretty hefty supply of both powders and bullets, so was curious on what you guys are using. I know the 210 bergers are pretty popular so I will probably load for those and maybe mess around with the accubonds at a later date. I appreciate your input!

While I've noticed that most 338 RUM shooters seem to prefer RETUMBO for the 210gr (and heavier) bullet, I have had very good results using 101gr of Hodgdon's US869. I get 3,200 ft/sec from my 26" bbl and the pressure is less than any other powder that I've used. Groups of .5moa @ 200 yards are the norm with this load in my rifle.

I use 94gr of retumbo in mine with 210vlds, but this is the max so start around 90.

+1 on the us 869 I use 101.5 gr with 210 smk. Not sure on the temp stability of it, only shot in-between 40-60 degrees. It produces easy 1" groups at 250 yds.

I used to load 95 grs retumbo great group, but an es of 60 +, 3170 fps...Now i use 89.5 grs h 1000 not near as fast but my es is upper teens, awsome group also, 2980 fps, standard rem 26 inch tube though.fed 215 and 215match didn't seem so change the fps hardly at all.

+1 on the H1000. Tighter groups, more consistant velocity.

H-1000 works the best for me, lower ES, more consistant FPS.

Retumbo will give you the most velocity and I had good accuracy as well. I don't doubt that H1000 would be a little more accurate though.....Rich

I shoot H-870 in mine for best results. If you can find it. US 869 and Retumbo is what I will try next when the 870 runs out. My friends are doing very well with retumbo.

Ditto on the H870! I didn't mention it because it is no longer available but I got higher velocity with it than ANY other powder. You can get T870 which I am told is exactly the same surplus powder that was sold by Hodgdon......Rich

I use 102.7 gr of Retumbo with 168 BTHP that I've moly coated. 3550 fps and .524 moa at 600. It will get tighter with adjustments. BTW no pressure problems.

918, the US869 was most accurate for a friend's 300 RUM and my 30/378 Wby but living here in Az the temp sensitivity reared its ugly head with it. Went with the temp stable Retumbo and H 1000 which were consistent in the weather here, whether practicing in the valley or at 6500' in the mountains. Am currently working on a load for another 300 RUM now. Good luck
