I’m a newby with reloading and could use some feedback. I’ve got a REM 300 RUM LSS factory barrel w/brake, H&S stock and really struggling getting the 212 ELDX to shoot well. I have always shot the factory Remington 180 grain Scirocco with good results three shot group all touching @ 100 yards. I can’t get the 212 ELDX to shoot any better than 1.5 - 2 inch groups at a 100. Tried some factory load 220 ELDX with the same results. Is it possible that my gun just flat out hates the heavier grain bullets?
My 300 WM 1-10 hated 212gr ELDX. Loves 200gr Nosler Accubonds. It might like the 200 ELDX, but the performance I got with the 200gr NAB made me stop there.

I can never get Hornady bullets to either group well and perform in game the way I like, or perform well on game and group well without fliers.
Quit using cheap Hornady bullets and you will have a fine cartridge that will perform to your liking.
Give the Accubond or Barnes bullets a go. Just remember with the Barnes the 200g is about the longest bullet you can use in a 10” twist.

Cheers.
I run more hornady than any other pill... I have no trouble at all with accuracy but I will say the tipped hornady are tougher to get going really well than the older interlocks were...

I run the 212eldx over 88.0gr. of H1000. Use Rem brass Fed match magnum at .050 off the lands. At around 600’ elev. I am getting 3115fps. I do have a 28” Krieger 1/9 though. I do like the Berger’s better as well, but have to shoot what we can get a hold of.

How fast are you pushing the 180 scirocco? I would just shoot that bullet. I am guessing out of a RUM you are going 3200 FPS or more. Even at sea level you maintain velocity greater than 1800 FPS for 825 yards. That bullet has excellent terminal ballistics characteristics. Shot a black bear out of a tree at 50 yards with excellent expansion. After passing through bone it mushroomed perfectly, 70% weight retention, and was found under the far hide. 2 shouts through a mule deer at 600 yards had good expansion and both bullets passed through the broadside animal. Not sure why you want to switch if this bullet is shooting big holes.

I have rifles that love Hornady's but I haven't tried the new ELD bullets. One rifle didn't shoot the vmaxs well and three years ago I burned up around 500 of them because they were inexpensive and powder was much cheaper and abundant. I would high advice against that today lol. The one bullet it did shoot was a Berger Flat Base Match. Sometimes I think barrels are like people. They like what they like.

Dirty dog, I think the main problem is the retumbo. That powder is trash! I will gladly take it off your hands and dispose of it for ya . 😂
yup, it is... I've had a keg around for years here and other powders always seem to do better... I'll probably eventually give it to my kid to burn in his 7rem... right now he's burning up my rl22 and that stuff is unobtanium right now...

FWIW with mine and the 215 and 245 Bergers, it really likes a long jump. Like I do not know where the lands are because it is so far.

Not an ELDX, but may be worth a try as others have mentioned with seating depth. Those factory Sciroccos are loaded very short and if they shot well, your rifle may just like to getting a running start...

I never could get the 178s to shoot in a few rifles consistently so they sit on my shelf. Maybe that is why my LGS has had so many on the shelves...

I tried 200 of the 212s eldx in various charge weights and jump over h1000 in Norma brass with federal 215 primers. Never was close to happy with them, 1.5 or worse. This was done in a rifle that produced sub .6 with 215 hybrids, 88gr h1k, Norma brass and 215 primers. 2900fps from a 22” 1:10.

Switched back to the burgers again afterwards and wouldn’t go back. Shouldn’t have to work that hard with any rifle that you know produces results.

Yep, shortest rum I’ve done so far but the next barrel is going even shorter to 20”. I run it suppressed with a 9” sig ti. It’s a hunting rifle so it’s packed in and out of pretty rough country. Shorter the better for handling. The 22” barrel didn’t seem to take away from accuracy at all. I only lost about 40fps from a 26” to a 22” using the same load. It’s running 215 hybrids at 2900fps with 88gr of H1k in Norma brass. Lots of room for more velocity but this load makes a great accuracy node in 2 different rifles at the same seating depth.

I got 2950 FPS with 215s in a 26” 300 WM with N570. Maybe give that a look if able. Gained 100 FPS over H1000.
