300 PRC Builds

So I finished a lightweight 300 PRC for myself a couple weeks ago. I wanted to have a pretty lightweight setup for the occasional mountain hunt. First load I tried shot in the .1s at 100 and has been consistently 1/4 moa or better. It was a very mild load of h1000 and 230 berger OTM at 2700 fps. I loaded up the rest of the 100 rounds of lapua brass with that load. Took it down to Texas and killed an aoudad with it. The 230 otm dropped the ram in its tracks at 340 yds

Rifle has the following:
Pierce Engineering Titanium Action w DLC, timed to a TT Diamond
24" Proof Sendero contour
Titanium Self Timing 5 Port "Muscle" Brake
Manners EH1 with elite cheek piece
Hawkins DBM and 5 round mag
Tangent Theta 3-15M bedded into a set of NF rings

These Pierce Engineering, no relation, are an extremely high quality action. Dead straight and the ignition is flawless. Comes with .250+ firing pin travel and zero cock on close for a Triggertech trigger. Way better ignition setup than some of the other titanium actions Ive seen on the market.

9lbs 10 oz with optics.

So I decided to do a true cold bore test with my 300 PRC. One shot per day for 3 days at 580 yds. After the 3 days the 3 shot group measured .816"/.134 moa. Had up to .4 MIL worth of wind on the Tangent Theta 3-15M throughout the test. Wind came from all different directions. I also zeroed the scope after each shot. Scope obviously tracks dead nuts.

After the 3 shot group i figured why not do a 5 shot group. So after one shot per day for 5 days the group measured 2.4"/.39 moa at 580 yds. 4 out of 5 shots measured 1.1"/.181 moa.

I had a friend up yesterday that wanted to do some load development on his rifle. After we were done I said lets both shoot a shot through my 300 PRC. One shot per shooter. Both shots measured .896"/.164 moa at 580 yds. Two different shooters on the same gun. I did zero load development on this rifle so far. Took the Lapua brass out of the box and put 74 gr of h1000 in it with a Berger 230 gr OTM .020 off the lands. Was 2700 fps in my 24" barrel. Figured it would be a real mild load while the barrel breaks in/speeds up. 55 rounds down the rifle so far.

That's some good shooting to go along with that crazy nice rifle. Just saying. I know mines on the heavier side with a good brake and it still doesn't forgive any changes. Thanks for sharing !

thank you. its a breeze to shoot with in this setup. I could let a kid shoot it. Brake kills the recoil.
