30 sherman magnum

Whidden screwed up on my 300 Norma Improved. They had the reamer print but no fired brass. I was getting .0005 on the shoulder and web. It would bump the shoulder. I wasted 140 rounds trying to get the thing to shoot. Had Alex build one with a blank and sizing die and things were on fire.

I'm fortunate that I have my old 30/375 S.I. dies to get me by. They oversize the body a little but I can at least get the head space set correctly. I'm pushing as hard as I can to get dies to people. I absolutely hate it when this crap happens!!

Shot the 30 a little today with 4 powders. 2 just for velocity check and 2 for group also. H1000 reached 3180 with the 215 and Retumbo 3190, but surprisingly, Retumbo was higher pressure. I would say around 3150' max for both. I tried RL26 for the first time and 77 grains was fairly mild at 3033' and shot .3".
RL33 was at 3090' and shot .1" it will run 100' feet faster and hold the primer but I haven't checked groups over 3100' yet.
7 shots with 7 different loads and 4 powders went into .9"

Seems to shoot the same nodes as 30 Nosler. 3030-3040 and 3080-3100. On those higher charges are you getting ejector marks or bolt lift?

I have 6 firings on the Hornady brass now and 17 of the original 23 are still holding primers
The only ones I've lost have been testing for max and have proven to be over loads. My average speed on the survivers is close to 3100' with 215's. I think this brass is better than the old 375 Ruger cases.

What kinda velocity do think the retumbo will reach with a 28" barrel with the 215 and 225bullets. I have a lot of retumbo and no of the other powders..
About 3150' max with a 215 and 3025' max with a 225.
Useable velocity that wouldn't wipe your brass out about 25-50' less.
BTY, I'm up to 7 firings on my PRC brass now and still going!

For the guys interested in H1000, I shot 83.5 grains behind a 215 yesterday which was max at 3121' and group opened up a bit although e s was 2 for 3 shots. Today I went out again and shot 82 and 82.5 with terrible mirage but better results in spite of conditions. It seems like the 215's like to run at 3050-3100' with most powders although groups are good over 3100' with N570 and RL33. I shot some 230 OTM's at 3022' with no pressure signs using RL 33, but that load didn't group. Below are the H1000 loads today. I'm pretty sure that the 1 shot outside the group with the 82.5 grain load was a mirage problem.

For those of you wanting brass for your 30 SM build, powder valley has 46 boxes @ $39.99. They likely won't be there long!
