30 Nosler Load Data

I'll share what I've learned. CCI 250 primer as Sherm said for sure. And I would be using the Berger 215's. Until you have 150 or so rounds down the barrel you will see things change. Fired brass will be different than new brass. I would use H1000 before I used N570, and it will be slightly slower. You can chase speed with 570, and I've done it, and you will see the effects in the barrel's throat over time. The 30 is my favorite big game caliber, but it requires a serious approach to managing barrel life. Not as much as a 28, but you have to be careful. Ladder testing is your tool on this caliber. You will likely find an accuracy node in the 3050 range and at 3100, the upper node is usually smaller and not as flexible. There is zero real world difference between the two speeds. Ryan Furman and Alex Wheeler are great sources of data on ladder testing with the 30. Keep the carbon from building up in the throat. It's a great cartridge in my opinion.
Completely agree here. I was originally looking to run 570 but after talking with my smith, who was running it in a 30Nos he was testing, found out it decreases your barrel life quicker than H1000. I have some more testing to do but will post up my results when I get it all done, just keep in mind you have a longer freebore than I do.

I'm not sure what your rifle specs are but pounding five plus rounds out of magnum builds some pretty good heat on a barrel if there isn't time to cool between shots. I stick with 3 round groups through testing on my magnums. That's just how I prefer to do it but YMMV.

Keep us updated.

Ok first 15 rounds down my new rifle.
It's cut to be 3.6" and .225 freebore with the 212 Hornady EDLX.

my Sierra app says 83.9 of N570 and a 200gr HPBT at 3.64 will run 3060fps.

I think I have seen ppl load up to like 91gn as max loads....I worked up to 84.9 (absolutely no pressure signs) with the 200.20 Berger Hybrids at 2969 avg, now I wasn't doing anything but getting a rough sight and a barrel break in, so that when I get my 212 EDLXs (post office was closed so can't get them till Monday)

so my question is....

anyone have any load data for a 30nosler and the 212 ELDX or something I can go with, I don't have to hot rod it but I want to be closer to 3100 FPS,

I know my barrel may speed up with some rounds down it.

any words of wisdom will be useful.
Thanks!
I am running that bullet in my personal 30N. I prefer 82.1 grains Retumbo at .12 off the lands in a 24 inch 8.5 twist barrel CCi 250 primer. Chrono at 3026 and could go faster but it shoots sub 1/2 min with that load

I recently received my 30 Nosler with .225fb on a 26" barrel from my smith and my brother in-law should have his rifle chambered with the same reamer back shortly. Definitely following this thread closely. We have ADG brass, H1000, VV N570 and Fed 215GM primers. I guess I better be on the lookout for some CCI 250 primers for a possible option.

I am happy with 3050-3125 speeds, and as soon as I find some 250 cci primers I will be buying them. I have Berger 215s but they will not feed properly and they turn my rifle into a single shot. Ya I don't need to shot the 5shot groups and won't for now on. I have a 1 lbs jug of H1000.
I just shot most of my virgin brass, so most of my brass Has been shot once. And it's all been prepped and ready for a primer, powder, pills!
I guess if anyone's got any good load data for H1000 I will break it out.

Start at 82.0 and work up you should see pressure at 83.0 - 83.5 with H1000
Thats with a 250 primer typically a 215 is about 20 fps faster so I always go .5 lower if I'm trying a 215

My own 30 Nosler is built by Jon Beanland.

Remington XP-100
Bartlein 5R heavy Palma contour 18.5"
MBM Beast 5 port
McMillan stock
All the bells & whistles

JGS reamer to my specs with 0.170" freebore puts a Berger 210 VLD at 3.55" or so with the bearing surface/boat tail junction at the neck shoulder junction.

The attached target is 79.0 gr H1000 shot at 100 meters (109 yds).

ADG brass, F215GMM, with the bullet set to be just off/at the lands. This particular load was about 2650 fps (new barrel; shots #11, #12, #13 on the tube).

I've since loaded up to 80.0 gr H1000 with no pressure signs but not quite the same accuracy (@2700 fps on the 18.5" bbl)

I've also loaded up some RL26 and have seen just over 2800 fps MV. Still need to tweek that load yet.

Nosler has load data for the 30 Nosler and I believe Hodgdon does as well.

Has anyone used RL 25? I have some and it's what I shoot in my dads 7mm RM with great results!
I also have some LRT.

Gives good speed, dirty and not temp stable. H1000 is your baby truthfully. Run the 3050 node and your barrel will thank you. Moving a 212 over 3200fps, you're probably close to 73k psi chamber pressure.

Chap nailed it.

I'm running adg brass, Fed 215Ms, H1k and 230 bergers at 2975 at .020 off the lands in a 26 inch custom. Ran it to 3050 which was just starting to touch powder to bullet with no pressure signs.

Accuracy has been stellar between 2940 and 2975 so I'm not messing with it. It's consistently. 5moa or better to 600 yards.

LAHunter, just something to consider, when resizing your brass, bump the shoulder back .002, if you resize to SAMMI each time, you will end up with the dreaded donut in your case neck. I have the 28 Nosler, when I first got it, I was resizing it way past .002 shoulder bump, running the barrel to hot during load development and when I purchased a Teslong borescope I noticed what I had done to the throat. What got me pushing for speed was listening to everyone putting the 195gr Berger at 3100+ FPS out the barrel, that was my first mistake to eating the throat. I will say push for sub MOA accuracy and not worry about the speed. Take care of your brass, bumping shoulders and not pushing it to the Max will extend brass life along with annealing every 3rd reloading. I had to learn the hard way, but it was a well deserved lesson for future barrels. Keep us up to date on how it is going, I have been thinking of building a 30N, something else to consider is the Hammer Hunter bullets. Take care.
