Platypus, how much more volume does the improved have over the 17 Remington?
I'm not for sure. I am a huge fan of the 40° shoulder is whybI went this route.

The 17-223 Improved is extremely efficient with way better brass IMO. I also have a few .20-223 Improved shooting 39/40gr at 3700+.

Takes 5 different bushings to neck down the 17 from .223 and 2 bushings for the 20. Super easy

Ever heard of the .17 Predator?
The Predator may be an idea with the improved shoulder angle?

I have. I believe it has a 30° shoulder and the thought was reliable feeding from a bolt gun.

I have 40° shoulders in bolt and ARs, they feed just fine.

The performance between the two is nil. I just went 40° because I have 223 Improved bushing dies. So .22 to. 20 to .17 is simply the correct bushing size and setting of the die for correct head space. Very easy.

Yes Dan Clements designed the Predator with a 30° shoulder with a shoulder diameter of .365. I think that's about as straight as you can be and still feed reasonably well.
I already own one of Dave's reamers for the Predator or ID seriously consider the 17/204 as my .17 Coyote getter. It could be built on an AR platform and be hell on wheels on multiples when calling and still have accuracy to 400+ on spot and stalk situation.
