30 cal barrel length

Could you guys give me your thoughts on a maximum effective barrel lengh would be for a 30-338 lapua imp. shooting a 210-240 gr. match bullet with powders such as retumbo or 50 bmg. Any thoughts on pros and cons on a 34-38 inch barrel.

For 1000 yard bench shooting go with 34 inches for varmints go with 36 inches.This what Dave Tooley when I was picking out my barrel.

Thanks for the input. Why the different length between varmint hunting and target shooting? Also what kind of barrell do you end up using and what length? Thanks
