Gurus of the LR,

Does anyone know if a Sako Long Action would support a 30" bbl. that would NOT be barrel block bedded?

The gunsmith who built my .257 Roberts AI is going to put a new barrel on for me because it seems the current one is a bummer.

I'm thinking about switching to a 6.5x284. The current bbl. is 28" that tapers from 1.25" to .9 and is fluted.

I'm trying to decide if I should stick with a 28" tube or go longer...

28" or 30" would work just fine, especially if you taper the muzzle to .900."

Most rifles in the light gun class at Williamsport are 30" long and not barrel blocked.

Thanks DC. Any preference between Krieger and Lilja? I'm intrigued with Dan Lilja's 3 groove concept.
