30-378 weatherby

I am getting ready to start reloading for my weatherby 30-378, I am looking for any load advice you can give. I am also curious what you all think about primers, can different primers effect accuracy substantially? If so which are the best?

jp, check out forum member Broz's loads for 210, 215 and 230 Bergers for the 30/378 Wby. They are very good loads. I think he uses the 215M Federals. His 210 loads shoot so well in my 30/378 I haven't started with the 215's I have as yet. Good luck

I used 118 grains of H870 behind a 180 Sierra about thirty-five years ago. The Federal 215 Magnum was developed for the .378 Weatherby to stop hang-fires during development of factory loads.

Correct. I have two pounds left and am hesitant to work up a load with it.

I think I may still have a half pound or so somewhere that at least has to be 10 yrs old. Back when I did use H870 it did give excellent vel's but seemed to burn dirty. Have you tried any US869 or RL33?

I picked up some yesterday. I will try both in my 6.5RUMLN. It holds 109 grains of water. Right now I don't know what bullet it will use.

shphtr, US869 was outstanding in my 30/378 as long as the temp was not over 72 or under 40. Too much temp sensitivity unfortunately.

I used Bros's load when loading for my 30-378.. 210's or 215 Bergers are loaded at 3.810 OAL.. Fed 215m primer and 98gr of H1000. I only use the 215 Bergers now.These are fairly mild loads and very easy on the $70 per 20ct. Brass.. My 215 loads were 3008fps. and shot great...I prefer the Federal 215m Primers. Thats a big volume of powder to ignite. If you need to: you can sometimes find where you get pressure signs using the Federal 215m primer and use the same grain of powder with the CCI and get that load to work without pressure..Reloader 33 might very well be a good one to try with heavy Bullets. It works very well in my 338 Edge..Dave
