155 gr. ballistic tip bullets clocked in at a very uniform and FAST 3,400 fps!

Cool gun. I never thought a 30-284 could chuck a 155 that fast. What made you choose to build 30-284 among the plethora of 30 cal options?

Well, I like to shoot and shoot a lot, and I wanted a .30 caliber that would allow me to send a LOT of bullets downrange, without being too hard on barrels, and the 30-284 at least to me, seemed like a most logical choice.

I already have a 7mm STW and a 300 Weatherby Magnum, and just decided I "needed" something a little bit smaller to work with. I have absolutely no regrets in my decision, and with the rig set up like what you see in the pictures, recoil is comparable to that of a 22 Hornet, and I get to watch the bullet impact through the scope!

Are you using Varget or H4350?

Also, 30 caliber Ballistic tips are Green not red, and they are not made in 155gr only 150, 165, 168 and 180gr,
Are you sure they're Ballistic Tips?
Looks like an eld-x to me. Either way, that is a bad a** looking and shooting gun.

The 155 gr. A-MAX bullets are the only bullets that have ever been shot in this gun.

I could not get enough IMR-4350 or H-4350 in the case, so I went with the ball powder equivalent.... H-414 with bullet seated .007 into the lands.

When my Oehler 43 PBL showed 3,400 fps., I pulled out the Oehler 35P to double check, and it gave the same exact reading. So yes, 3,400 fps. is correct!

I do not shoot a 30-06, so I really don't know what a case capacity comparison would be.
