Either one will serve you well. Typically an -06' is kinda considered a 500yd Elk rifle, so Deer well past that should be no problemb. No the 300WSM is not going to die out. It'll be around for a long long time. The 300WSM, & the 270WSM are the 2 classics that will have longevity. Not looking as good for the 7 or the 325, but for those of us that handload it's no big deal. Oddly enough I just had my ol -06 turnned into a semi custom long action 300WSM for Elk to 850yds, & Deer to or past 1k:D. Seeing as how I'm a 270, & 30 cal freak, I like your choice in cartriges:D I'd look very hard at the Weatherby Vanguard S-2 in either -06, or 300 WSM. Inexpensive, & a great reputation for accuracy. tuneable factory trigger. The Weatherby Vanguard & the Howa 1500 are twins, so aftermarket upgrades are available if you choose to do so. I'd also recomend looking at the 270 Win. & 270 WSM if your of a mind to. Lots of great bullets, & factory offerings that'll get you to 600+ on Deer, if the accuracy is there.
