30-06 LRH Bullet

I own a Remington 700 BDL 30-06. I am looking for opinions on an accurate .308 bullet that I can use for Long Range Hunting. gun)I was wanting to get a 180 gr. @ 2700.

I would try a Nosler Ballistic tip or a Hornady a-max. I use to use a 30/06 and used the 165 ballistic tip.

Thanks for replying Stu! Nosler Ballistic Tip are great bullets. I use them for my 243, but some of the reviews I read stated the heavier grain NBT bullets would break apart on large game. A-Max is a great match bullet, but isn't recommended by Hornandy for hunting.

What have you hunted with your 165 gr.?

Mainly red deer in New Zealand. Taken deer from 8 yards out to 250 yds. No problems at all.

I would say the heavier NBT would be fine with 30/06 velocities. They might not be the best with magnum velocities.

The a-max is a great game bullet. I use the 162 a-max in my 7mm mag, at ranges further than 300 yards, and it works great. I would not hesitate to use a 308 a-max on game, but would probably use them past 200 yds.

my vote goes for the 155g or 168g Berger VLD and dont forget the seirra 165 SBT

Do your 168 Bergers fit in your magazine well? I see they have a great BC but need to be "jammed" or touching in order to be efficient. I was looking to get just one bullet weight for all applications and I think the 180 gr would fit the bill. I think I might go with the [FONT=Verdana, Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif]Swift Scirocco 2 Bullets.

I like the Hornady 190gr SPBT; mainly because that is the largest bullet I can stabilize... and they are inexpensive.

I also like the Hornady 180gr SP, because they are uber-inexpensive! The Hornady 180gr SPBT's are nice.

To answer a few questions you had...
A lot of people on here use the A-Max with great results.

168/178 amax , if they shoot in your rifle they are a great game bullet !

My vote is for the A-max and 185 Berger. Any of the Sierra SPBT in 180 or heavier. Good luck and have fun with your endeavor.
