I have been getting crappy groups with 185 vld and r22. Rifle is a 26" 1-10" twist. Lots of 185s on hand that I would like to use. What powders have worked best for you and what kind of groups are you getting? Thanks

I have not tried the 185 VLDH as yet but have shot 180's and 200's and I like H4350, N560 and I read that John Barsness had good luck with the the 185 and Ramshot hunter.

I really like N560 with pretty much any 06 case including the 06, 270 and 6.5.

I'm surprised RL 22 is giving poor results because that would have been another worth a try IMO.

Good luck and shoot straight y'all

rl22 in a 30-06 goes fast but I really haven't had great groups in the rifles I've tried it in. I typically use either 4350 or 4831 with 165's and 180's in a '06. My current load is 57 I 4350 under a 165 hdy interlock fb lit by a 215 in either rem or ww brass. It's good for 1/2 to 3/4 moa depending on the nut behind the trigger and conditions...
I've got bigger 30's if I want speed, this rifle does a bit over 2800 fps on a 165.

I save my rl22 for my 300win...

might give hybrid 100v a try if you have some should give a nice case fill and velocity good luck with it

I can't give you any direct info, but I'm slowly developing a load using the 190 ABLR in my 30/06 and I'm using RL-23 at the moment. I have RL-19 on hand if I can't get the 23 to shoot to my liking. So far though, things look good with 23.

What all have you experimented with up to this point in load development.

My 06' doesn't love RL22 either, sparkles with H4350 and 185 Berger Juggernaut Target or 185 Hybrids. Either load rarely prints larger than half moa. Every so often the stars align and I sneak in some really tight groups. Brass prep is 9/10 of the law.

It's been awhile since I loaded it. I sold the rifle a couple years ago so I can't remember the details exactly but it was seated about as far out as I was comfortable with and still was .030 or maybe even .040 off the lands.
I used 58 grains H4350. ....work up etc. !!

I have not tried the 185 but I have a great load worked up with 175 VLDs (and other 180 bullets) using RL16. I believe most were around 54-55 grains and Norma brass. Superformance was another good one but I prefer RL16.
(corrected grains but will give exact numbers when I get home and check my notes)

I don't have any r16. Always been curious about Superformance

For reference, I looked at my notes at it was 54.5gr RL16 w/175 VLD @2.690 BTO/3.370 OAL and 2800fps. Several good 180 (AB, Partition, TBT) loads that liked 54.5 - 54.8gr of the same.
With Superformance, the node was at 59gr @2850fps with same 180 grain bullets.
