Checking out the 308 for deer season in November and I found that 3 Position Safety does not go into safe or bolt lock position. Using a paracord tied to vice I was able to rotate bolt safety shroud clockwise 15 degrees past the detente and able to actuate safety lever to middle position bolt for disassembly and cleaning. I cleaned the bolt, re-assembled and am able to move safety to fire position where the safety remains locked. The rifle is 20 some odd years old, very lightly used and otherwise in excellent condition. Is there something I am missing? Does anybody know a gunsmith in the Denver area that they can recommend or have thoughts they would like to share on HS Precision service?

Is the bolt 'cocked' (firing pin retracted and held by the trigger) when you are trying to operate the safety?
