.284 Norma or. 280AI for long bullets?

What case would perform better for long bullets seated to 3.340 mag length?

What case would perform better for long bullets seated to 3.340 mag length? Assume a 30-06 is being rebarrelled to a sporter barrel at 24". I'm leaning toward the 284 but the reloading manuals all have .284win data that under states the performance due to deeply seated bullets.

Of the 2 named, the 284 would because you would have a LOT of bullet in the case with an A.I. If you didn't mind a magnum case, the Saum would be better than either (velocity wise). Of course, you would need a magnum bolt face for the Saum. You could also go 7 wsm or even 7 SS if you didn't mind a wildcat.

A 30-06 should have a longer magazine then that. Given 24 inches and the short mag I'm going with the 284 win.

Since your going through a rebarrel you could have a wyatts box installed giving you 3.99". Then you could load a 280ai or sherman as long as desired. Assuming your building on a 700.

I have a long action 284 that runs 180 VLDS at 2940fps with 51.2 grains of RL17 seated at 3.185. Brass is Winchester and last 5 reloads. I have ran 175 sierra to 3150 but it was too hot in warm weather .

What load are you using with the 175 Sierra.

3150? Or 3050?
I run the 175 Berger @ 3030fps in my 26" .280AI w. RL23. Hot, but no pressure signs. They were at 2975 until my barrel broke in. Still ridiculously accurate though.
