280ai 22inch 1-10 twist barrel powder suggestions

Just had a rifle re barreled with a fluted 1-10 twist 280 ackley. Its a short heavy little bugger that I plan on running suppressed with a 168 ( if I can) berger hunting vld. Berger shows it being stable above 5000 feet but im trying to figure out what powder to run. In my stock ive got imr 4350, imr 4831, h4831sc, imr 4955 enduron and imr 7977enduron. Thoughts? Suggestions?

I ran rl22 with the 162 amax out of a 1-10 280ai and it ran great and shot very well out to 1400 yards. So I think 4831sc will work.

might have to tweak a little more with 1:10 twist spitting the 168's. 280 AI is a sweet cartridge. Definitely my favorite! Let us know what recipe works. Thanks

If only I could find it! I got lucky to find some imr4955 and 7977. I've got some 150 eldx and 162 eldm bullets on stans by.

I shoot a suppressed 22" 280AI- good choice you're gonna love it! I am shooting 155gr Terminal Ascents and 150gr eldx using RL16 getting right at 3000fps. You might want a slower powder with that heavier bullet but if you shoot 150-160 class bullets I have really liked RL16. H1000 works well with the 168 Berger but I had to load it pretty hot to get velocity and burned my first barrel out at ~600 shots. I know you dont have these powders but if you are looking all the time like I am and come across these, you will have other options.

I know you don't have this powder but I was able to get to 3000fps with RL23 in a 22" savage with Proof Carbon fiber barrel with the 168's, I actually settled on the 140 vld's at just over 3200 for some wicked whitetail medicine, I've seen the 140 be devastating on Mule deer as well at those speeds

The local gun store has about 6 or 7 boxes of the 140 hunting vld's... wonder if i should go get some before i cant. the 280ai is pretty well going to be for critters under 400lbs.

If I were you, I definitely would lol, I'm on the east side of the country and know alot of guys who use them from 7-08 - 7mm Mags and love them, buddy of mine shot his Mule deer with 7mm wsm with the 140 and dropped like a ton of bricks at roughly 230yds, we're headed back in 2 weeks and he'll be packing them again, I was fully planning on toting my savage with 140's on this trip but my new 300prc is shooting so good I can't not take it lol, and the 28 nosler is a gimmie, those 2 let me buck the wind a little better if I need to stretch out a little, last time it only took 82 yds though, lol, anyway, good luck with load work up, I love mine, it has shot the 140 with RL22 and 168 bergers/162 ELDX's with RL23 very well, I have plenty of all of them for when I get bored and want to try one out,

H4831 is the gold standard for the 280 AI. You can't go wrong with this powder in this cartridge. RL23 is a stellar performer, too.
Those are the two powders I use in my 280 AI. It's a great cartridge and you're going to love it.
