So I have a question I cant find direct answers for. I'm getting a browning xbolt in 280ai with a 1:8 twist 24" barrel and the bullets I found in stock so far are 175eldx. For powder I have H4831, but to get the most out of these bullets speed wise I think I need H1000, or RL26 (yes I'm dreaming on this one I think).

I am a novice reloader but have someone to help me, am I missing any thing? The load data I'm looking at is based on nosler's 175 load data and looking at the 2800fps mark.

H1000 won't give that good of velocity. You can't get enough in the case . RL 26 works good for me with 175 LRAB running 3000 fps. RL 23 will also work and 4831 is a good powder too.
Nice I want to pickup 168 LRAB but haven't found any. I have also been looking for 26 &23 but haven't seen any either. For powder in the 175 I was just going off of the nosler info. Is there a better place for the 175 in the 280ai.

Hey, have you worked any loads up for this rifle? If so, what have you had luck with? I have the same rifle on the way, and was curious.
I have some 143 Hammer Hunters that I'm wanting to run in it, but I also want to work something heavier up.
Thanks!

I'm still in progress, but I have played with the 162 and 175 eldx see the attached pic. My next try is using re23 in the 175 to see what velocity im looking at, note my gun didnt seem to like the n565 so I didn't put that together. Also the groups for the ladder were only two shots so dont base the house on them. The highlighted load for the 162 i did verify and it did kill an antelope this year for my son and was devastating. Im also going to look at the hammers for a lighter load but im intrested in the 130 absolutes for the speed. Loonie was correct H1000 hit capacity before max speed but did produce some good options to explore around the 2800 mark.

Ok! Thanks for the info. I picked up some re23 last week, and was wanting to try some 162 eldx with it. Nice to see that it worked well for you. I'd also like to try 4831sc since it is relatively easy to get ahold of around here.

Also, what brass are you using? I have a back order in for Peterson, but I picked up some Nosler for the time being.

I have had really good luck with the H4831sc in the 280ai. With a 150gn ELDX.

I've not tried the 175's yet in 280ai. Started with 160AB's and H4831sc as well as IMR4831 and H4350. I've been looking for RL23 forever. Too early to tell on velocity as the barrel only has less than 50 rounds through it. I have approximately 7-8 bullets to test including HH 143, HH 155, Berger 140 and 168. If I could get 2900 with a 175, I would be very happy.

On noslers load data they list R23 with a 175 at 2773 with 24". R26 is 2900 and H1000 is close.

For the 175 I used nosler brass for the 162 I used Peterson.
