I'm looking at finding the best bullet load combination for my 280 AI to 650 yards for Deer.

Its a 6 1/4 lb w/Scope(3.5-10 VXIII B&C) Remington Titanium action 23 1/8 Lothar Walther 1100 contour barrel. Bansner Stock.

Right now I'm shooting 140 gr Accubonds at a mild 3080 fps using 61.5 gr RL22

Thinking of going to the 160 Accubonds for more downrange energy.

Anyone have any good loads for that bullet in a 280 AI

Mine likes 62 gr RL25, 60 gr RL22 or 56 gr RL17

All lit with a Fed215M and all push the 160 gr Accubond a little over 3000 fps

Probably RL17 is my favorite since it is new and supposedly less temp sensitive.

Loaded for friend's Ruger M77 MKII accurized and AI'd by WPA of Utah, 160gr NAB, CCI BR-2, 61.5gr H4831SC, no idea what the velocity is but his group at 300 yards is below. He's happy but we will work on some load refinement when he returns from his overseas assignment.

I've also had good luck with R-17 and 160gr Accubond and since their is no loading data for the 280AI I used 280 data as the start for 160gr bullet 51.5/R-17 and worked up. I used Fed 210M and Fed 215M and be very careful used the mag primers as you can get a good spike in velocity. I gain appr 62fps using the mag primers

I also tried 57.5gr to 61.5gr/IMR-7828 with 160gr AB got that load out of Nosler manual. Both loads gave me over 3000fps but your loading pretty close to max loads. I took the 280AI on 3rd season bull elk hunt here was down to 15 below and had no problems with it.

I've got another 280AI that rifle likes IMR-7828 with 150gr bullets.

I have only had my custom 280AI for a little over a year, last summer I tried a couple different loads. I started with 140gr accubonds, good speed but wanted a little heavier bullet so I tried some 162gr A-Max with H1000 and had good results out to 200 yards and velocity was just at or below 3000fps. I have some 160gr accubonds loaded with H4831SC, H1000 and magpro. Have not made it out to the desert yet as its too wet and don't feel like getting stuck. Sorry I don't have the powder grains handy. The nosler & seirra manuals have data for the 280AI.

For the 160gr loadings the H1000 is definitely the powder to investigate, followed closely by IMR7828ssc. The H1000 when pushed hard in a 280AI reaches max *SAFE* pressure right about the time you run out of room for more powder. H1000 is also a very predictable powder when pushed right up to the max. For these reasons I would most definitely investigate H1000.

I would 100% for sure run with Win LR primers first. Win brass is a pretty good idea as well.

How long of barrels are you guys running to get 3000fps with the 160 accubonds? I have a 24" and it seems to be slow. 62gr of h4831 runs right at 3000 with the 140 accubonds.

It's in a light weight packing gun.

I couldn't get Any 4831 to rev up at all, velocity stayed flat. Kinda strange. But the RL22 worked beautifully and gave great velocity.

Nosler max load is 62gr/H-4831sc @ 3179fps and they used a Lilja 26" long barrel if you think it's slow best to talk to the barrel guys.

my load is 63g/H4831sc w/ 140 ttsx at 3090 fps, .050 off, 25.5 in Krieger.

I have been trying to decide if I want to stay with the 160gr accubonds or try those TTSX's, I don't think I am going to be able to shoot at an animal that far that the difference in BC will matter??? have not shot the accubonds yet thou?????
