I am having a 280 AI built and I was wondering if anyone had a starting load/ powder that has worked for you. It's on a 700 action, 28" hart barrel 1:9 twist. I will be loading 160 grain accubonds. I have nosler brass, GM210M primers. I have seen lots of people using 4831SC but just wanting other options. Any info would help. Thank you

With the 160 Accubond...Norma MRP powder, I use 60 grains...but work up as that is pretty near max...MRP has shot good with 140, 150, and 160 grain bullets.

3,003 fps in my 24" barrel....should be near 3,100 in a 28".

Reloder 22 and IMR 7828ssc are also in then right burn range for the 280 Ackley.

150 NBT/IMR 4831 F210M
175 NPT/IMR 7828 F210M
168 Berger/H4831 F210M
160 Oryx/RL-22 F210M

All these have worked very well for me, I won't list the powder charges as that's up to you to decide. Just stay within the expected velocity range for a given bullet weight and you'll be safe since you're running 2"-4" longer barrel length. 20-30 fps/inch would be a normal range increase.

I'm shooting 168 Bergers in my Cooper M52. I've played with H4831SC, IMR 7828, and Retumbo. My best velocities have been with the Retumbo, about 50fps faster than H4831SC. All shot well for accuracy.

My 280AI got 27" Lilja barrel and 160gr AB best so far has been R-17 and IMR-7828ssc. I haven't hunted with them but shot few Berger VLD 168gr/180gr using H-4831sc,IMR-7828ssc and R-17 with 168gr.
