I just purchased a savage model 16 in 270wsm and shooting 130gr berger VLD bullets. I would like some input on this combo for whitetail & black bear also some reloading data.

The advice I always give on Bergers is to not jump them unless your feeding from the mag and there is not enough room to seat them out that far. If it were me I would use 150 bergers or 140 accubonds. I would seat them all in the lands except accubonds, for 130 start with 62grns imr 4350 or 63grns imr 4831, for a 140 start with 60grns 4350 or 61grns 4831, for a 150 start with 58grns 4350 or 59grns 4831, these will be tame loads if you seat them that far out so work up from there until you see pressure or accuracy starts to fade.

I shoot a Savage 12 and I shoot the 140 Bergers and 140 Accubonds both with 71 gr of Retumbo and Fed 215's. Both at .015 of the lands, and both will stay under MOA to 1000yrds on good wind call days, always 5-6in of vertical or less. HOT load!! Mine had the 1-11 twist but I noticed that Savage changed to a 1-10 for the WSM this year sometime which you should check for, that will make the 150 Bergers more attractive, still I would rock the 140 Accubond for bear!!
Haven't shot the 130's much since the 140's are so great, but I would check out H1000, H4350 and Magpro, maybe some R17. Norma brass is excellent and worth the money if your head space is good.
