Hello all, I need your advice. I recently moved to IMR powder and looking for any loading guidance for 270 Win, loaded with IMR 4064 and Hornady's 130Gr SST bullets. Please help

I'm not a 270 shooter however I would suggest you go to Nosler's reloading site on line and check what they suggest in IMR powder's. Just search Nosler Reloading and bookmark the site for when you need it. H4831sc and IMR4350 are two that seem popular in 270 with 130gr bullets.

Try this from Hogdons website

Good luck and shoot straight y'all

This thread I'll be watching I have been using sierras and H4831 but would like sst 130.

H4831SC, 130 SST @ 200yds five shot group. H4350 also performed very well. Good luck

I have been shooting 54 grains of IMR 4350 with 130 grain Hornady for 40 years. It has brought down almost every kind of North Amrerican big game including Buffalo at 400 yards. Why would you want anything more? Flat shooting with great ballistics.

Double check with your particular bullet, but a classic 270 load is 130 with 49gr of imr-4064. Prior to h4831 Jack O'Connor reported this was most acccurate combo he found after firing thousands of 270 loads

130 SSTs are my go to deer and hog bullet in 270 Win.
I've got loads worked up for multiple guns with H4831SC, RL26, H4350, and most recently IMR-4064.

In my gas guns (BAR and 7400), IMR-4064 is the only powder that doesn't beat up my brass rims due to cycling timing issues.

Using Hornady brass, I was able to reach 50.5 grains with my lot of IMR-4064 and 3.23" COAL in my 20" BAR. I worked up cautiously from 45.5 gr in 0.5 grain increments. Various sources had 47-48.5 gr as max, which proved to be conservative. Using Quickload, I originally worked up to 49.5 gr, but saw no pressure signs and velocities were lower than predicted...so I went to 50 and 50.5 gr with no issues. Tightest 3 shot groups were at 46.5gr (0.56" @ 100 yds, 2795 fps) and 50.5 gr (0.73" @ 100 yds, 3010 fps). Other charge weights shot 1.1"-2.2" groups.

My advice... start at 46 or 47 gr, and work up from there. You should top out somewhere around 3000-3100 fps depending on final charge weight and bbl length - when you start seeing pressure signs.

If you decide to switch powders, RL26 is by far the fastest at 3200 fps+ at 63.5 gr.
H4831SC seemed to give the smallest groups and lowest SDs at various charges up to 60 gr and +/- 3080 fps, with the possibility to push harder up to 61 or 62 gr depending on brass H20 capacity.

From my Hornady Reloading manual it recommends starting grains of 41.6 and a max of 48.6 grains using IMR 4064. As others have suggested you should double check that on the Hodgdon website, also as others have recommended either the IMR 4350 or 4831 or H4350 or H4831 are great options for the 270Win. Good Luck.

I would like to ask what is your COL? I started with 60/H4831 it looks to be compressed and then i dropped it down to 58/H4831. I don't want to damage myself/rifle so i worked up a load with 55/IMR 4350. any help would be awesome. thanks
