Simple, have 27" 1:8 Light Palma coming in about 12 weeks 🤞. Plan is to shoot 156HH and 170 EOL to start. Action COAL is 3.65 so setting up at 3.63 throat of the CBTO 156HH. RL26 is starting powder.

Would like to hear more of what's working well in your 1:8 .270! Bullets, Powders, Primers, Brass. Share the wealth!

This is a .270 Win thread so don't care about any other caliber. Don't care if it kills T-Rex at 1,000 yards.

Ok here is pic of the dummies of 156 HH from the dummy builder in relation to an existing .270 load in my 53 year old 110C @3.43 versus 3.63 of new build. I will be sitting on pins until the barrel is spun on and ready to go. I plan on putting a Forge 2.5x15x50 temporarily. The 156HH looks as well as I hoped it would. There are 3 baring bands in the case so good stability.

My 270 Sherman is on a 27" light Palma 8 twist and shoots great with the 170 eol. I think you'll like it. Nothing wrong with the ol straight up .270 win. It should be a whole new animal with the bigger bullets and appropriate powder. RL-26 will probably get you the most speed out of it with a pretty full case.

My cousin also has two .270 Sherman's, just an improved .270 win with a shortened neck pretty much, both with 8 twists, one is 24.5" the other is 19", haven't loaded for the shorty yet, but the longer one shoots the 170 EOL great, and it kills well too, lots of pronghorn, a couple mulies at around 600 yards, and an elk at 910. Just a very nice, intermediate set up. With RL26 and your 27" barrel, I would think you could hit 2900 or somewhere in that neighborhood, will be a pretty sweet combo!

I already shoot RL26 in my old .270 with 145ELD-X and 150 ABLR and just amazed at the increased performance and sometimes you hate to even state the velocities since they are so much faster than anyone expects. Of course it doesn't hurt it shoots great too!

Ya, with that 170 grain and reloder 26, it bumps a .270 from just the standard ol .270 up to darn near 7mm rem mag performance. Considering a 180 at 2875-3000 is where a 7 mag generally lives, throwing a 170 at 2850-2900 is sure nipping on it's heels!

Curious if you have tried VV N165 or N170? Can't locate any RL26 but was able to get a couple pounds each of the VV165&170. Looking for starting loading points for the 175TGK's

Have not tried N165 or N170 with 175TGK. Only RL26 which got me over 2950. Didn't think it would get that with long bearing surface.
