270 loads?

Rl16 would also be a good bet. Any of the powders in the 4350 burn rate will work. Might pull a little more vel with 16.

You can only get in 58.5 grains of powder before you'd REALLY be compressing it. Even at 58.5 I was tapping it to get it down. I tried it a couple of times to be sure.
Labradar used for speeds.

56.0 3172
56.5 3182
57.0 3213
57.5 3260
58.0 3279
58.5 3296

Group for 8 total shots was just over 2 inches. No signs of over pressure.
However, based on Steve's comments other powders may give higher velocity.

I'm going to load up some 58.0 and 58.5s and see how they group. The range is closed next week, so I might try and sneak up on Saturday morning.

Another great powder for lite bullets in the 270 wcf is varget!but it likes being run hotter , my Tikka md695 sports a 22 ss/bbl reloaded match prep Remington brass it weight without primer was 194/195 grains used a wlr primer jumped the 110 ttsx 0.45 thou with 51 gns Varget & it cronoed 3172 granted I'm low on powder charge but my bbls newish and I ranout of bullets , only was borrowed 6 to test 2 mor grains an I'll be cookin wit crisco , Cheers & dis is my 1st Tikka Lv it !!!

Just got my favorite rifle back from my smith wearing a Hart 1:8 finished at 25" in her original caliber .270 win (Sammi spec). I live in California and changing all my rigs to copper. Just got some 156g Hammers to load up. I've got H4831sc, Retumbo and RL22 sitting on the bench. Curious if anyone has loaded for the 156's yet. I don't mind buying different powder if there is a better place to start. I H4831sc works well in our other 270, but I keep wondering about Retumbo.

Look at Nosler data for the 160g. The 156g Hammer Hunter weighs in at 58g. You will probably find your self going a couple grains over the 160g data and should see ~50-100fps more vel. I find Nosler data to be generally optimistic and our Hammer Bullets show lower pressure than like weight lead core bullets, so the data lines up well. I like to find a powder that does not show compressed so that there will be room for the possibility of a grain or two extra powder and room for the longer pure copper bullet in the case.

Looking forward to your results. Not many guys out there that have a fast twist 270!

I was hopping to find a load with a heavy for caliber bullet for my wife's 270 but the twist wouldn't allow me to to stabilize them. I decided light and fast was the way I would go I also loaded the hammer hunter 117 bullet I'm pushing it at just over 3400 FPS. I am pushing it as hard as I can loaded .5 incramints till I found pressure and backed it off a half grain and got a decent group!

Last year my wife shot a small buck at 60 yards just behind the shoulders it devistated the lungs, after passing threw it also grazed 4" of a tree and left a giant scar I didn't have time to find the bullet I've been meaning to go back.

Did it stay in the tree? We found one like that when we were in Africa. It did not stay in the tree but we were able to trace out the bullet path and found it in the ground about 30 yards beyond the wildebeest that I shot.

No it passed threw that tree I'm guessing it was stuck in another tree it was pretty thick where he was shot it was getting late and I didn't have time to look really I've been planning on going up this summer but summer is now over and I still don't have it life gets in the way of my fun!!

60 gr H4831 with most any 130 cup and core bullet has probably killed about as many deer as the plague out of 270 Wins. I used either the 130 Sierra Game King or Nosler BT and most of the time it was BANG FLOP no matter the yardage of the shot.

I have went as high as 62 grains of 4831sc and saw a increase to 3210 with a 130 grain hornady. Know this is over book max, but bolt lift was okay, no apparent signs of pressure. Believe this would be temperature sensitive in hot weather. It was still at 5/8 inch at 100 though. Jack oconnor mentioned using 62 at one time but he was using the war surplus 4831. Reloader 26 has possibilites, it will push a 150 grain bullet to 3030.
