Just looking for some opinions on which load you'd choose.
Gun is a 338 edge in a hunting configuration - less than 10# and 26" barrel.
I have 2 loads that shoot 1/2 MOA.
300 Berger @2812 with H1000
260 Hammer @3003 with N570
Neither load is maxed out.
I don't have any plans to shoot animals past 600.
Which load would you take?

Easy. Hammer.

If you were gonna be using it for say 500-1000 yards or more, I would lean towards the Berger, it is hard to deny the difference in bc between the two at extended ranges. But for 600 or less....the difference will be very little, and the Hammer will shine, and has a well documented history of great terminal performance.

I say Berger ..but I run them in 9 rifles right now .
I have spent time with Steve at Hammer Bullets and his Product looks Amazing !
I will try them one day I'm sure .
My buddy has the 329 gr . Hammer in a 375 Rum build ...just need some testing on a Critter !
Rum Man

Hammer
I run the 260's in my 338 RBH in a 24 inch barrel @ 3000 fps over Rl26. It shoots lights out to 1k.
They are extremely easy to find a load for and have very repeatable performance
Brian and Steve have outstanding customer service and never stop pushing for a better design. I'm anxiously waiting for the NEW line of higher BC bullets they are testing now.
Hammer 'em!!!

The .338's only downside is the number of good bullet choices. Either of yours will give great results.

I prefer getting the recoil down in my .338 so between the 2 I'd go with the 260. If 600 yards was my end point I'd likely go lighter. The 235, 223, and 213 Hammer Hunters are also good choices.

Ease of finding a good load, keeps round count down.

The 260's were perfect
Both bulls taken with the same rifle/load
My buddy (in the right) shot his at 850 yards
I shot mine 5 minutes later at 450 yards.
Those 260's did the work. Outstanding performance. Dropped like rocks. Not even a twitch. Completely passed through on both bulls with quartering to shots
No bloodshot meat!
Freezer is full now for the winter

I'd run the 260 Hammer. I use the old 230gr CT Failsafe in my 338 RUM. If you have good velocities an you run the actual numbers, the 260 will most likely beat out the 300 out to a pretty decent range. The 300 does give more energy on target, but if they both pass through that's an irrelevant point. The 300 will really start to come into it's own past 1000.
