Would there be any reason to rechamber my .257 wby in something 6.5 seems like velocity and ft lbs is better in .257 out to 1000?

I you compare same velocities with a 115 gr .257 and same velocity with 140 6.5 it. The 6.5 will have more energy. 140 gr will buck the wind better and will be more consistently accurate.

At the same time there isn't a huge difference, I personally think the .257 max killing/hunting range is about 600 yards, light bullet with .450ish BC's looses energy fast after 5-600. I've read where others pushed the limits further.

Hmmm maybe you should be the make a 6.5 weatherby

I have a 257 weatherby and a 6.5-300 wsm. the 6.5
wsm is what i want my 257 to be. I've thought about rebarreling my 257 to a 6.5 weatherby just to mess with. Velocity will be the same as the 6.5-300wsm so i might just sell the 257. Not sure yet all i can say is the 6.5 doing 3250 with a Berger 140 is **** impressive

With a mag face bolt on your 257 Wby…rebarrel it to the 6.8 Wby (same case as the 257Wby). You can push 165gr Matrix VLDs to over 3225fps. The Berger 170 VLDs are in the mail…150gr bullets to over 3350fps…

Have fun...

Not to nit-pick, but wouldn't that just be a regular ole' .270 Wby Mag?

I'm either going 6.5 wby or 6.5-.300 wsm. Everyone says no belted not sure why ?
