With a mag face bolt on your 257 Wby…rebarrel it to the 6.8 Wby (same case as the 257Wby). You can push 165gr Matrix VLDs to over 3225fps. The Berger 170 VLDs are in the mail…150gr bullets to over 3350fps…

Have fun...

What barrel length and powder are you using in your so called 6.8 wby I shoot the matrix 165s in my 270 wby but only getting 3100 fps . Maybe I need to call it a 6.8 ? . I've done built a 6.5 wby using the 257 /270 case

It is a 28", 1-9, Benchmark barrel…using H-1000.

I will have to check my notes on what kind of speeds I was getting with the stock 26" barrel.

I just wanted to sound like the cool kids that are running mm calibers…:) (6.8mm vs .277) It is still a 270 Wby...

What powders are you using?

I'm also using h-1000 and have run up to 74 grains but found best accuracy was at 73 grains

It is nice to know that we are on the same page. 74grs of H1000 is the 3225fps, 165 Matrix load, which is also on the warm side.

Way-way off topic…if you want some "cheaper" 270Wby brass the Nosler store is having a sale...Nosler Brass 270 WBY (50ct). More of a discount if you are a vet or a first responder...

That wold be real close to the 6.5x300 weatherby that was just released

That caliber was a wildcat for many decades before it's recent releasing. There's nothing "new" about the 6.5x300 Wby, other than the SAAMI standardization of it.

I still think they would have been a lot better off to build it off the .257/.270/7mm Wby case.

I realize it is the 6.5x300 WWH (weatherby,Wright,Hoyer) and never stated that it was new just that it had been released. And I agree the 270 wby case has plenty of case capacity for a 6.5 bullet.
