257 semi custom Weatherby

Hello, need advice. Purchased new to me, 257 Weatherby mag with 10 twist. The seller never shot heavier than 100 gr. I'm thinking 115-120 will be ok in a magnum.
Opinions greatly appreciated.

117 Hornady works pretty well along with 92 grain Hammers. I'm trying to find a good load for 120 Noslers, but nothing outstanding so far. Both of these were shot on 7-18-22 The Hammers are just over 3700 fps.

Thanks, I don't reload rifle. I've watched utube but for me I learn best by hands on and someone talking me through it. I bought the gun for a little heavier bullet and from reading, a magnum would help 115-120 gr bullet in this twist.

I've had the best luck with 100 gr match kings and 90 absolute hammers. The match kings were amazing one shot drops. They never exited a pig or deer and would destroy a shoulder.

Thanks, I hear people talking about hammer bullets but never tried them or know anyone personally that has. I thought they just might be the new kinda cake people are talking about.

Given your statement above, should we be trying to discuss factory, commercially manufactured ammunition? The only thing clear is you wanting to use heavier bullets.

115-120GR bullets will work just fine in a 10 twist. All I shoot in my 10 twist, 257 Weatherby is the 115 gr Ballistic Tip. They've been the most consistently accurate and deadly bullet in the 10 twist 257's I've owned. Although I reload, Weatherby makes a factory load in the 115 Ballistic Tip that I've used on occasion and I've found it to also be very accurate. I'd start there as I feel you'll be very satisfied with the results.

I see you're in Texas. If it's any consolation, I've used my 257/115BT combo on just about every game animal you'll find here. It's never let me down.

Commercial ammunition for the .257 Weatherby consists of 110, 115 and 120 grain bullets. Ballistic Tips, Partitions, Accubonds and ELD-X. Since these are all cup and core bullets they only require the 1:10" twist due to length. Eventually there should be at least one solid turned bullet available also. Weatherby is using the Hammer bullets in some of their cartridges but not the .257 yet. Including the solids in their lineup will require a faster twist rate when using the heavier, longer bullets so manufacturing on the rifle side will need to catch up and add to their selection of barrels for this chamber.

You can use a search engine such as AmmoSeek or AmmoBuy to find which ones are available and at what price. Midway shows a fairly complete selection except most are not in stock.

Thank you sir. This is the first one I've bought. Been shooting 25-06 Remington on Sendero 117 Hornady for 30 year. Thought this gun would be fun with a faster bullet. I shot a lot of different animals here in my time.

I like 110gr Accubonds.... used them on game up to 600lb. Accurate and deadly. Tried 110gr Interbonds, they also shoot 1 hole groups, but the Accubonds work so well on game I've never been tempted to use anything else.

I was always a big fan of the 100gr bullet(s) in my 257 WM's, just plain flat shooting at normal hunting ranges, for everything with antlers. Good Luck Cheers
