257-300 prc

Ed you're not kidding those have great numbers. I'm still jealous of all the options you guys get compared to up here in Canada. Wonder what speed I could get a 145 up to out of my 25-284. I still have about 450 of the 131 BJ left. Then I'll be looking for another bullet.

Cory,

The 131s are no slouch, either. BJ spearheaded the renewed interest for faster barrel twist/heavier .25 cal bullets. Too bad they did not keep up with their delivery promises; too many unhappy customers. I am surprised Sierra has not filled the niche ... yet! I hope they make it even heavier than the 145s.

Ed

I'm thinking about doing one eventually. This is one with the 145 BH coded with Tungsten Disulfide WS2.

And here it is up against my 257 Blackbird.

If 257-300 prc is on the right it is a lot bigger!! Is the 257 blackbird close to 257 weatherby mag?

Wouldn't you be better off going with a 6.5 cal? Same bullet weights, same speeds, better BC?
Using's PVA's simple math formula,velocity x b.c.,nope
Others here,Blacjack,26" 25 creedmoor ,135 berger @2870 x .334=958.8
26" hornady book 6.5 prc averge max loads 140 eldm 3050x.326= 994
26" Hornady book fastest max loading 6.5prc 140 eldm,.326 x 3151= 1026 hot not target
My 26"6.5 cm,140 berger @2750 x .304=836 target load
others 26" 6.5 cm 144 berger @2750?ah hell let's do 2800 x .336 = 940 edge of warm?
My 25 cm 18" 135 Berger @2670x.334=891 target load, 2720 is max, prone ,off a bipod,355 yds 4 in an inch,5th is always just a smidge out with a McGowan prefit, suppessed, lighter recoil than my heavier 26"
92g HH at 3250
So my 18"25cm, PVA formula, 891 is flying better than my 26" 6.5 cm @836 Check my math,I could be wrong.
6.5 cm is a turd in short barrels
Ok,flame me with your Hi velocity 6.5 exceptions, make sure you start of with" I" and some kill pics as proof.

I don't think the 145 Buckhorn would be the best projectile. It has a very long bearing surface and a rebated boat tail, both of which are not efficient. I would think that the Berger and 135 would provide a flatter trajectory and less wind drift when you figure in a higher starting velocity. What do you guys think?

These new heavy for caliber 25 cal billets have a great BC. So no I don't think you're better off with a 6.5. Unless you need/want to shoot something heavier than 130-145 gr.
Absolutely which is EXACTLY why I built a 25-284 for the 131-135 grain bullets. It outperforms my 6.5-284 with 140 class bullets.

I cannot comment on the 145 Buckhorn because I am unfamiliar with it. Regarding the 145 BH vs. the 135 Berger, you can run the numbers from your rifle and decide which is best for your intended purpose. I like the BC on the 145 BH better, esp. at longer distances, for my intended purpose.

Doing a Tikka 25-284,25-06 0r 25 Rsaum, not wanting to open bolt on Tikka for Rsaum. My gun plumber has an older 25-284,will this work for m133 and135's build?
or use a BJ reamer?

I have the 131 FB reamer designed for the 131-135 bullets. Can't speak on the older reamer but I'd guess it would suit the 110-120 class bullets better. You could still use a uni- throater after chambering the barrel with that older reamer design. I do that with most chambers anyway.

It will never happen in a factory cartridge or rifle. I shoot a .25 SAUM and barrel life is minimal and I'm playing nice. 3 shot groups and let it cool. Strict cleaning routine. First barrel made it 700 rounds. Still shot tight but dumped 100 fps in velocity. I don't bump up to stay in the speed node. I toss the barrel and spin up a new one.
