250 savage quickload help

I was wondering if anyone could run quickloads for the 250 savage and Reloder 26 loaded to 22-250 pressure. Both of my 250 savage's are modern guns.
Has anyone tried this combination, if so what were your results
 
What bullet weight and barrel length are you looking for. As well would you have seating depth for a particular bullet.
 
Shouldn't be too different from 6XC, 22-250 case is the parent for that. The .257 cal makes it a little less overbore than the 6XC so should generate lower pressures. RL-26 is real slow. From what I can see of 6XC data I have for 105's, and staying very conservative, I'd bet you could fill to about 41 grains (based on what a 6XC takes and backed down a bit) to start and work up. I'd further bet you can go to about 45 grains or thereabouts. This assumes you're running heavy for caliber bullets seated relatively long.
 
I have a ruger m77 with either a 20 or 22 inch barrel.
I also just bought (but is not here yet) a sako pistol with a 14.5 inch barrel.
Willing to consider any bullet.
Currently I run 100gr ballistic tips .
I have a lot of 90gr gmx's.
But I would think that the heavier bullets would be better for Reloder 26.
 
I neither have quickload or a modern action but my custom Mauser 98 in 250-3000 ran best with H4350 with 100 grainers and Varget with anything lighter. It is not a rocket ship or long-range round but very civilized. It is a class act compared to a .243. A definant gentleman's cartridge.
 
My QL said with a 21 inch barrel 110 ELDX and 43.5 grains of RL26 you could achieve 3000fps. The pressure give or take would be 61000psi. The down side is that was at a 117 percent load density. If you want to try Rl26 and the 110 ELDX start 10% less and work up slowly. The velocity was pretty impressive though.
 
I know you're asking for RL26, but just to cover the bases, here's what a run with all powders, 2700FPS+, 110% case capacity, 22" bbl and the 100gr NBT looks like:

Good speeds, but thats a lot of powder to cram into a 250 sav case!
 
It looks like you would have to run a really heavy bullet to get any real advantage with it.
I think the 120's would still be to light and the 131 would need a different barrel anyway.

Yeah, you're probably going to want the heaviest for caliber bullets you can get. Also looks like I made a good deductive assessment. /me pats self on back.
 
Any bullet heavier than 100 grains in this grand old cartridge is likely to disappoint from a velocity standpoint. Got my first one 55 years ago, and have not been without one since. Within it's parameters it's about as good as it gets.
 
Jim Corbert used the 87grn bullet for wacking Leopards & Tigers of the man eating persuasion. If you AI'd it then above 100grn bullets are viable but in standard form the 100grn ballistic tip and game king work very well. In my great uncle's 99 we run IMR 4895. This has been a staple for a long time.
 
My cousin has a Savage 99A in 250 Savage that he broke a part dealing with the action and I made him the part and fixed the rifle so it would work. I also recrowned the barrel because he and others before him no doubt had carried the rifle with the muzzle ridding down against the carpet or floor of autos from the looks of it. I worked up a load using as it turned out the max data load of 40.5 grs H-4350, Hornady cases, CCI 200 with Hornday 100 gr interlocks. Velocity ran 2930 fps and accuracy was sub half MOA. When I took the rifle and targets to him he said "that rifle has never shot that good before." He has killed a bunch of deer with it since then and has never had to shoot one twice. Most of his shots are inside 200 yards." In my 49 years of deer killing experience I have discovered that most any .257 cal. is a deer killer with most any bullet 100 to 120 grs.
